Resetting your insight should probably cost more now

Recommended Posts

With addition of skill trees, 1 moon rock and 1 purple gem to change your skill tree points is dirt cheap and kinda kills the point of having limited points (pun intended). Maybe insight reset should not be possible with purple gem idol, and we need improved idol for that, with increased cost. Let's say it needs green gem moon lense to craft. Reasonable price to relocate your points.

What do you think?

Would it be wrong to just let players reset the skill tree for free in the menu? It feels more like an oversight that you're able to swap skills by swapping characters rather than an intended mechanic. A more interesting mechanic could be to kill the respective side's boss (shadow kills fw, lunar kills cc) as a sort of betrayal (I know you don't pledge allegiance to the bosses and instead pledge to Charlie/Wagstaff, but unless a way to betray them is added this is the best option imo) to reset your skills.

The introduction of the celestial portal killed the point of choosing one character. There are survivors whose purpose now is just for a quick swap so that argument of no point in having limited points doesn't apply. The limit is there so that you don't get all the benefits at the same time, you'd have to choose which one is needed for the current run and if you want to have another goal then you swap out the skills. It is managing with what you've got. I think the skill swap on the portal is just fine.

introduction of multiplayer killed that. Character swap just helps if you play solo/small group of players. Big group already has benefits of every character they want

Cause this is Don't Starve Together? At least before the celestial portal update you'd have to plan or ask which character would be suitable if you choose to play with others. Multiplayer means each role would serve a good purpose and this game is supposed to be like that, cooperative survival.

So solo players are not allowed to have fun because it's coop game. Understood

The betrayal idea COULD work, But it needs to be the other way around. (Shadow helps Wagstaff, Lunar helps Charlie.) Maybe the end of Taking Root, we can see ourselves helping Charlie and Wagstaff once more to be able to reset skills... But you might change affinities...

I was thinking of betraying the side your aligned with which would cause them to get angry with you and remove your affinity with them, which also just happens to reset all your other skill points.

Thats not the point. Just because this product is catering more towards the cooperative gameplay does not mean you can't play it alone. Things can still be done alone but you must know the challenges and difficulty in achieving them since mechanics are designed for multiple players. Deciding to change the system just because it's tedious for a single player style does not consider what kind of game it is supposed to be in the first place. This is the multiplayer variant of the Don't starve solo franchise. There is always the option of mods if you want the game to morph into a solo player catering game. :wilson_flower:

That's partially correct considering how ANR bosses are specifically designed to be not solo-able(the developers literally said "it is not intended to for solo" in klei streams). I still don't understand how and why did they do that

Pick character, go all in crafting skills -> craft -> switch, reallocate points elsewhere. Why bother investing skill points in there when switching is easy and cheap, unless it's a more situational craft like perhaps Wormwood being able to make a dark sword with just nightmare fuel and HP. I'd rather they just make these new character-exclusive crafts part of the character than the skill tree. If they stay, then insight resetting should cost more than having an upgraded postern and 1 moonrock and 1 purple gem. But I guess it's better than just interacting with a wardrobe.
