zmklol
Can klei divide the backpack into separate equipment? The current update direction of DST seems to be no longer survival, but teamwork and confrontation with the boss. Separating the backpack and clothes may bring a better gaming experience. The priority of backpacks is too high, making it almost impossible to use clothes, and those specially designed clothes look very wasteful. Although mod can meet the requirements I mentioned, it is only mod and often has incompatible bugs. Cheggf
I almost never use backpacks, they aren't very helpful in most situations if you know how to manage your inventory. Going faster with the magi saves a lot more time than carrying things I don't need. I mean if you have bundling wraps you can afford to put a bunch of stuff in packages and carry them around in one inventory slot, if you DONT have that boss locked recipe.. well then your gonna probably want a backpack depending on which characters your playing as. Specially now, with the introduction of brightshade husks and pure brilliance, which are used to craft armor, weapon, pickaxe and hammer, only taking up 2 slots instead of 5 (twigs, grass, stone, gold and pig skin) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/149164-a-small-suggestion/#findComment-1647595 Share on other sites

No. You have 15 inventory slots, 3 worn slots, and 1 annoying cursor slot. You only need 1 piece of armor (optional if you aren't planning on spontaneously fighting bosses), 1 weapon or plan to deal with hound waves, 1 food, 1 or 2 slots for light, and you probably want a walking cane too. That's 2-6 of your 19 slots (or 3-8 if it's a harsh season), with the rest being available for more optional things like healing/tam/magi, things that are relevant to your current plans like axes, or empty slots for you to pick new things up. I use a backpack when I'm in the ruins, carrying large amount of items like deforesting for logs, or initially exploring the world and grabbing random things as I come across them. Other than that unless I'm on a beefalo I probably don't have a backpack. GelatinousCube
This will be a super unpopular opinion I imagine but I'd absolutely love a separate slot for backpack and armor/clothing. I don't want it available from the get go however I want it as a reward for basically clearing the entire quest line, CC and FW and having both types of rifts open and beating whatever new final bosses are the result of the current update arc. I want it to be incredibly difficult to actually obtain, something you have to really work towards and look forward to unlocking. Once you've cleared more or less everything it'd be a great bonus. Just as a note for reference I'm Krampus Sack gang 100%, I rarely if ever take it off. Yeah I know there's other ways to play and late game you don't need that storage but as a serial hoarder and someone who generally works on multiple tasks at a time or before returning to "base" I just can't part with it. I'm well aware of how awesome certain other body items can be. I'm trying to utilize them more lately. I want to try wear a hibernation vest all next winter to see what that's like. I did used to use the belt of hunger more in the past. For my personal playstyle (wigfrid most of the time and enlightened crown glued to my head except for armor during certain fights - the crown is insane for certain bosses my god, walking cane anytime I'm not fighting/working) magi is just totally unnecessary. 3 hours ago, zmklol said: Although mod can meet the requirements I mentioned, it is only mod and often has incompatible bugs. If I wasn't on console this would be one of the only if not only mod I would consider using. May be it could even be a world toggle in the future so people can decide for themselves. Edit: perhaps you would be limited to tier 1 and 2 insulation clothing and armor like log or grass suit (but not marble/shadow/thul) with a backpack so it isn't too crazy as it would clearly trivialize certain challenges/seasons. I am well aware of how strong backpack plus armor/clothing would be. Pet Rock
It would be interesting if Winona could fuse things together with her tape at the cost of 20% speed when fused item is equipped (yes I've been playing tears of the kingdom). This could be the max tier of one of her skill trees when she gets her's. This would allow for the combination of non protective and protective equipment such as amulets and armor or umbrellas and weapons. This is quite an ambitious idea again I know it's hard to implement. n.apollyon
Having a separate body slot for backpack would mean that you could wear an armor all the time making your base health have less value. Maxwell and Wanda could just be wearing night armor all the time making their glass natures nonexistent. I think the backpack taking the body slot is a well paid value since you can carry armor and other stuff inside the bag and just equip the armor when fighting. Its not like you're tanking all the hits or fighting all the time. Its also a good tradeoff for speed from mag or other sanity and temperature effects from other clothing since you can carry food or items in the bag to gain those stats instead. I play in public servers exclusively. People take you stuff without permission. You might actually starve to death when you find ice box empty by surprise. Backpack is necessary if you want a pleasant play through. Chests, however, is optional, because they magically eat up stuff in storage. Skelewar
I agree that backpacks are practically necessary... but choosing what to place in that slot is part of the challenge. If you must use a body armor then you carry it in your pack and equip it when you start fighting. Sure it makes stuff like the summer frest, hibernation vest, belt of hunger, etc nearly worthless since there's no chance you'd rather wear that than a backpack, but there have always been nearly worthless items (grass suit, breezy vest, cookiecutter cap, etc.). I don't think this would remove a very large risk reward aspect to the uncompromising survival game. If you'd prefer it, use an extra equipment slot mod like you mentioned.
