so terrors below came out and introduced amplified environmental threats to caves, bigger quakes and acid rain. i like that idea more, instead of what is basically harder hound waves that come in bursts every 2-3 days. of course they probably couldn't tackle this in the lunar rifts update because of the sheer quantity of content they would have to add to make all 4 seasons harder

if these updates serve just as a base, and in the future more interesting things will come out, i feel like the 2 rifts should be equivalent in providing interesting gameplay changes

what do you guys think?

I want more environmental dangers, so long as they’re not the “smash your base” kind.

The truth is that the “smash your base” theme has been a thing since mostly forever, with fires, or giants invading or even as recent as antlion.
The point should probably be “at least not without proper warning” or “with a counter measure that is not super easy or super annoying”. which are probably the hardest things to design.

The other issue with these big changes are the “moon-quay dilemma”, when some new threat is added that is clearly inbalanced, and people who are very resistant to changes keep complaining until the threat, utility and fun of the new thing is entirely neglectable.
I suppose we all have different play styles and pleasing everyone is impossible in the end, unless you throw half baked ideas like it happens with the pirate raids and it ends up filling no purpose for anyone.

Knowing the balance of how much of a threat to add, and how little is too little is the true balance issue Klei needs to face. But I think going for the optional side is probably the way to go: if you don’t want to face super hard things don’t activate this/don’t do that. High risk high reward thing.

You're literally making stuff up, I never said "so long as they're not 'smash your base' kind", the key phrase in my original comment is "can't do anything about it", I want problems that have solutions.

He was quoting me and I said that.

but what he was saying is what i meant @ShadowDuelist

Yeah I gotchu! not meaning to point on you specifically, I've been meaning to expand on this idea since the monkey pirates were added, and your phrase worked well for the start of my rant lol.

I would love to see a Gestalt Trio Boss Fight come from the Lunar Rifts.

Since we now have two “shadow aligned” trios, it would be cool/balancing to see a King, Queen, Pawn Gestalt trio fight. Maybe you have to make a set of those statues with Moon Glass, set them by the Lunar Rift, and break them during a Full Moon to start the fight.

Drops a chest piece armor that has 3 “gestalt orbs” that circle the player and puts mobs to sleep if they get too close… might be useful for the Bee Queen fight.

No, most of Klei’s environmental threats are solved by wearing a hat or a stationary structure, and while getting the hat might be interesting, wearing it is not, and could be replaced by something with more novelty.

Environmental threats are tricky because you can’t fight the rain or deceive it which really limits ways to interact with it; although I’ll admit they have oppressive potential, if that potential is just me hugging a tree for 3 minutes, I’m more likely to be bored than challenged.

I wish your poll had a low potential/boring option, but since it doesn’t, I’m not voting.

As someone who has yet to make it to the endgame to experience the rifts, yesI would want more environmental threats.

Unfortunately, my idea/response was too long to be considered a simple reply, so I made it a topic; you can check it out here!

honestly they should add mini environments like areas of freezing and heat, like klaus deer spell but it should only start applying once both the lunar event and nightmare event has both been active, both appearing in the cave and surface, I explain more if anyone wants but feeling too lazy at the moment

As long as they don't destroy your stuff, I'm fine with that, but I don't really want new threats as much as I want the old ones to be balanced and properly done first.
