steam achievements

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon, for two years now I have been tormented by the question, why are there dst no have  steam achievements ?
For example: "Lumberjack" - cut down 100 trees
"Cute, strange friend" - pick up a glommer flower
"Checkmate" - kill the mechanical horse
"Oh, what was that?" - Survive the Hounds' raid
"Rodeo" - tame beefalo
etc.

Don't Starve once had goals written on the player HUD, like "survive 3 days". It sounds good but people just do the goal and nothing else, "survive 3 days", they literally afk at camp fire for 3 days. By giving players clear goals it essentially tells the player those goals are everything, the game has nothing else. So they got rid of those things and allow the players to explore by themselves.

Basically given achievement bad, your own goal good.

Steam achievements would be good.

And they can provide more challenge for players after beating the game. Imagine an achievement for beating the game without rolling back. I don't know how many people currently rollback but it would definitely provide a challenge for some.

Yes I know the game doesn't have an ending so beating all bosses would be beating the game in this context.

And what are these achievements for, other than excessive bombast?

Developers like once said that they were not going to add achievements anywhere, because it contradicts the concept of the game. And here I agree with them.

Spoiler

Although knowing the developers, they didn't want to add a lot of things, but then they did it in one form or another, unfortunately.

I didnt said anything about what you guys are saying, you are attacking an strawman.

I literally only said that console have achievements bruh

Edit: not gonna lie, that achievement looks funny, glad the devs made it lol

What else did you expect from people when you said that? And what strawman?? You've been given a reason as to why Klei implemented achievements into console DST. If it was solely their decision to add them wouldn't you think they would've added them to DST already?

My bad, I called it strawman because the answers werent related to my post nor the post I was answering (because you guys stayed on topic)

It is my fault, I was off topic.

Also, I dont even have a opinion about steam achievements, I just said there were achievements on console, I entered a discussion that I didnt buy it ;-;

И для чего нужны эти достижения, кроме чрезмерной напыщенности?

Разработчики вроде как однажды сказали, что не собираются никуда добавлять достижения, потому что это противоречит концепции игры. И здесь я с ними согласен.

I understand that dst and Oxygen are different genres, but there are achievements in the second one (

The fact that someone has been sitting around the campfire for all three days is not a problem of achievements, but of the player, everyone will overcome the path for achievement in their own way.

I agree, usually getting achievements brings pleasure and moral satisfaction from the fact that I have achieved something, and not just killed the boss.

The developers removed the achievement just because there's a single player that afk ar their camp fire. Does this make sense to you?

The GDC panel on Don't Starve explains why there are no achievements. It is Klei's game. If they don't want achievements, there won't be achievements.

I feel it is beneficial to the game to not have achievements. They implemented the scrapbook now so there's your achievement list. Go explore.

achievements =/= objective markers

This, and if they wanted to make achievements, they could make them only show up after you complete them. That way you get the sense you completed a task, but at the same time, you don't let your players know what they should be working towards next, but you get the feeling that there is always something else available to do.

Then people would just look up how to get them. Achievements = Objectives.

But klei can't do anything about that though, the same concept applies to a wiki or a guide...

Wikis and guides don't explicably tell you stuff to do. Wikis give insight on whatever you wanna look up and guides show you what you can do.
