fabin
so, they decided to let us see charlie in-game now with a little cutscene of the encounter, cool. but i feel like the encounter is very underwhelming for what it is, like the gateway gets fixed just like that? no explanation or anything? very strange imo i feel like they should add some easter egg-like encounters with charlie throughout the fw progression line, sort of like the wagstaff encounters in the moonstorms. i.e: you just beat the shadow pieces and got the heart, as a reaction to that, you'd see like a shadow clone of charlie just watching from afar, and when you approach it disappears and leaves a rose, stuff like that of course the update is just outta the oven, so maybe they already got something like that planned
Ryusuta
Yeah, I admit it's kind of a damp squib the way it is now. Just kinda "Yep. She's there. And we're pretending we don't know who she is unless we're playing Winona or Maxwell. Oh well. See you next time, I guess."
GrapeVruit
Yeah, I think the way it's implemented now is okay, but for the character that's supposedly vital to the lore and the literal queen of the Constant, it's pretty underwhelming. You give the shadow hand 5 dreadstone, Charlie shows up with little to no fanfare, repairs the portal and then dips. I'm not sure why they didn't do a parallel with how Wagstaff was introduced in the moonstorms, where Charlie shows up, introduces herself to the player, and sends them off to get materials for the repaired portal. At the very least I'd like her to have 2 lines of dialog. Despite being the Constant's big bad, compared to Maxwell, she doesn't have much of a presence in-game aside from the roses around marble statues. GenomeSquirrel
I wouldn't mind Charlie being added as part of fuelweaver set up, if they are making it part of the plot, they should set it up. As for talking after the fight, what would she say, she's still actively waiting to kill us, but maybe we are useful idiots ...

D_Good_Fellow
Yeah Charlie one of my favorite characters in DS lore and this feels pretty underwhelming. Not the worst thing in the world assuming they do more with Charlie in the future, but I was hoping for something more comparable to the Maxwell encounters in DS Adventure Mode. She's one of the most built up characters in the franchise, I think her introduction should be a little more unique and have a little more flair. What if instead of being in the overworld, you could only find Charlie by bringing the dreadstone into complete darkness? But instead of dying, it triggers a cutscene between the character and Charlie similar to Maxwell's scenes. Honestly I'd even settle for unique dialogue in the darkness implying something is "taking" the dreadstone from the character and then suspiciously sparing them. I just want Charlie's encounter to feel unique. I will say that it does occur to me that Charlie's role in the update could be the kind of thing that might be saved for the official launch, since it's not a mechanic that needs balancing and it might be the kind of thing Klei doesn't want spreading around on the internet until the update officially comes out. Maybe that's me hoping for too much, but the thought did cross my mind. I also feel like it bears noting that Charlie does have a minor role in the Fuelweaver fight already, right? Doesn't it's defeat animation involve it being pulled down by rose vines or something? Maybe that could be made more explicit too.

Zeklo
I usually try not to oppose suggestions so fervently, but I really hope they don't lay it on any thicker. The FW rose is already [chef's kiss]. Charlie operates in the shadows. That's literally her whole thing. The fact that we see her at all is incredibly surprising! It's very reminiscent of Maxwell's singeplayer greeting. Short and sweet. She's not like Maxwell who sought the characters out of lonesomeness and boredom-not one with an ego that demands attention. She's a fractured vessel ala the play's Doll who become susceptible to dark influence, whose aim is to achieve a higher goal. Where Wagstaff may utilize characters as tools, Charlie moves them around like pawns (while very likely being one herself). Speech aside, I do agree the process of giving the shadow hand the dreadstone is halfbaked, but I'm under the impression that's temporary. Wasn't the whole giving the shard to Wagstaff bit only added post-launch cause people didn't like killing CC forcing essentially WIP content? I would hope these intermediate bits will get removed once we have a much fuller picture.
