I would just like to know what is so hard about fighting off the invading Brightshades? I mean if you don’t like fighting them that’s fine.. you can toggle them to less are even completely off, no one is going to judge you if you do. (Well at least they shouldn’t) I toggle cookie cutters to less & sea stacks to very few or none at all- and I have no shame! But what is it about this particular mechanic/mob that your not liking, & why should that mob/mechanic be changed to fit your quota? I don’t like the current way Wonkey or Pirate Raids work in the game.. but I can either toggle them off, or learn to deal with them. I mean whoever’s idea it was to let monkeys who rob you blind of everything you own jump out of a unnatural portal onto a tiny island repeatedly & endlessly- That Developer is pure EVIL.. But luckily there’s a toggle to disable monkeys spawning out that portal. Just like I would imagine that ANY and ALL future content updates themed on Lunar/Nightmare Rifts will have toggles for you to choose what spawns from them, and how often as well. I feel like everyone’s CURRENT Problem with Brightshades is that they’re the ONLY mob coming out those rifts, so they invade your world more often than they probably would if other potential things spawned out those portals as well. With 3 updates coming this year themed entirely around these Rifts- I’m gonna wait to see how it all plays out in full. No it's not a translation error, the whole lunar island content sucks, it somehow managed to be more annoying than ruins content(shadow chess pieces - ag - fuel weaver), but also gives less rewards. Just think about the chores you need to do for pearl, wagstaff and crap king. Ugh, I'm sick of it already. Well that's because you're playing on a public server and content really shouldn't be balanced around those. You can't control people's actions and if you can't expect to communicate and come to a consensus where you're happy, maybe public servers aren't right for you? And I can instantly tell that you didn't fight them even once, otherwise you would cry about controller targeting issues and how lag on console kills, etc. (perfectly valid complains, by the way). But you think that it's fine to have opinion before learning about subject. Fine (like hell it is), I'll list problems briefly for people like you: - targeting issues. Exist on PC as well, especially when 3 brightshades and 3 of respective vines are so close together, which only gradially becomes worse when there are other objects blocking path (like Pearl's home); - lack of cooldown. Self-explanatory, you can't just kill the thing and be done with it, it's infinite loop of fighting 3 brightshades in unwinnable battle. Your only choice is to give up right away or after draining some resources and wasting time, but either way you won't be able to access your plants (farm plants will rot as added bonus); - tight placement makes AoE of one plant cover other plants. Even if player attacks other plant, as long as any plant in the group gets attacked (by gestalt, Abigail, other random mob like bat, etc.) AoE hits you. Plant also does AoE attack on the end of "dormant" period, so even if one managed to kill 2 vines, one has to retreat earlier than plant one is attacking "awakes" just because other plant is about to "awake"; - AoE of plant forcefully unsaddles one from beefalo in 1 hit. It's basically 1-mistake fight, and while to certain extent risk adds pleasure of avoiding it, after certain treshold it works backwards. One of the reasons Crab King is unfun fight and universal meta is to cheese him is because it's not worth the risk of loosing after 1 mistake. Same deal here, and risk is too big not because of dying, taking damage or being forced to walk/sail a lot, it's much worse - loosing domesticated beefalo. Plus rifts have their own lot of issues they bring, I already listed them in original post. If you are really interested, you could read it (if you have read it I wouldn't even need to list problems with brightshades separately). 20 hours ago, Mike23Ua said: you can toggle them to less are even completely off And that means I'll be locked from future content. Besides, don't you think update is failure when it has so many issues with only reasonable solution being to turn content off? 20 hours ago, Mike23Ua said: I toggle cookie cutters to less & sea stacks to very few or none at all Unrelated, but if you have issues with cookie cutters - try to use 50+ damage weapon. It kills them in 2 hits so they can't fight you back before you kill them. Using dummy grass boat to collect salt specifically also helps: grass boat is immune to leaks left by cookie cutters, although it still takes damage once cookie cutter cuts through it, so you can drown if not careful. As for sea stacks, you can use oars instead of masts, which provide fairly precise control over boat, and ever since it was buffed in Waterlogged update it's solid option for sailing. Eventually you can clear them completely on most used routes, although I agree that ocean could use less of that. 20 hours ago, Mike23Ua said: why should that mob/mechanic be changed to fit your quota? There is a difference between disliking content because of first impression/unrelated reasons and disliking content because it's poorly designed. "I don't like content" and "content is poorly designed" are not equal statements though (despite them often coming together). I consider content poorly designed when instead of general formula of risk/effort-reward games usually follow (and for a reason!) it leans towards risk with too little reward or rewards for too little to no risk taken/effort spent, as well as when content follows loose/loose outcome sample space instead of loose/win or at least loose/tie. In this particular case risk is way too much, reward is too little, and, most importantly, it's loose/loose scanario (i.e. "picking my punishment"). I know you are on these forums for a long time now, so you should have seen other things people complain a lot about, like wildfires, desease (when it was a thing), monkey raids, old farming system (before RWYS). Did you ever think what all of them have in common? Unbalance of risk/effort-reward and - in case wildfires, desease and monkey raids - loose/loose outcome sample space. A bit less often people complain about too much profit for too little effort/risk (regardless of win-loose balance because win is too easy): somebody claimed it was/is Wolfgang, others - Wendy, I would argue it's Wanda. But they still do, thus proving such criteria of "poorly designed" as too little risk/effort for too much reward. Whether their information is objectively correct - i.e. their statements can be verified regardless of observer - is another question, but that is precisely why discussions and clashing opinions are valuable. To either point to objective problem, or to be proven wrong and adjust one's understanding of the world (game, in this gase). So when I write that I dislike something, I don't do it to attack Klei, or to show that everybody who disagrees is somehow inferior - no - I write for devs to understand what is the problem and how to fix it, or to learn why my vision is distorted and how to gain joy from the game where I have difficulties (if I discover that I didn't know something). 20 hours ago, Mike23Ua said: I don’t like the current way Wonkey or Pirate Raids work in the game And that is another widely-acknowledged problem. This is why forums exist - to give our feedback of why we like or dislike something, aren't they? Otherwise only bug tracker branch would be present. It would be much better for both you and Klei if instead of silently avoiding content you don't like you wrote why you don't like something in detail, considering you already are in the forums and spent effort on writing. Mike23Ua
Well first of all, thank you for explaining in detail what you dislike about Brightshades, second of all you dismiss me like I haven’t fought/played with this content when I’ve posted several videos of actually fighting them. Third I’ve even made my own valid complaints about Brightshades (such as how you walk right past the stunned one to attack one that isn’t stunned because the game doesn’t auto-target stunned plants in the group) Fourth: Turning off just the Brightshades would NOT prevent you from experiencing other Lunar Rift mobs, so you wouldn’t be locked out of “Future Content Updates” unless Klei makes it so you absolutely HAVE to fight Brightshades as part of that. Unfortunately: Much like MANY things Klei adds to DST Brightshades are very clearly designed with a Multiplayer Focus, giving a HUGE Middle Finger to people who play Solo.. as fighting Groups of these things Alone is “almost” impossible. But.. if you have at least one other player who can force the plants to extend their vines leaving them distracted chasing them, while you (or they attack while you distract) then killing these plants become much less troublesome. IMG_5718.MOV i suppose this may EVEN be the reason that they’re locked behind needing to fight several bosses and do several quests before they even trigger as content- because the game expects you to have additional players around to take them on. If my theory about this is correct, then DST may become a game you CAN’T play alone anymore because new “EndGame” Mobs are going to force cooperation in Multiplayer. I just wish the developers at Klei would go into detail and explain their intent behind it.
