Mike23Ua
First of all I want to apologize for being a console player and not being able to provide feedback on content like this while it’s in Beta until after it’s been released for awhile onto my platform. But.. I’ve played around with the Wilson rework a good bit, No, I haven’t Killed Ancient FuelWeaver or unlocked any of that late game content, the only thing I actually HAVE done with him is fully purchased the entire “Torch” skill tree, and the “Beard” skill tree. I want to talk about that a bit, As a player who isn’t skilled enough at this game to unlock the Bundling Wrap recipes, being able to Stash food inside my Beard is a pretty good perk, I Wish that food stashed into the beard would spoil at a “much”slower rate, and be undetectable by mobs such as Bunnymen or MoonQuay Monkeys to prevent being attacked by them or stealing beardstashed foods. Specking both the Insulation & the Faster growth seem to be a pretty good combination because your beard will grow out faster & also provide decent warmth for Winter & additional food storage slots (up to 3) Wilson can now shave his beard off in Stages, Dropping Insane amounts of Beard Hair while still maintaining his lovely majestic beard shaving off one segment at a time, you will lose a food storage slot per beard level shaved off, but with faster regrowth it won’t be an issue. This perk blends well with other characters who actually NEED that Beard Hair stuffs like Willow- Who can pretty much just follow behind a Wilson player as they shed like Bearger (when shaving) and gather Beard Hairs to build her Bernie dolls with. Beard Hair also makes for a surprisingly GOOD Fuel source to ignite a campfire with, but I feel like there’s a few missed opportunities on what beard hair or having stage 3 beards could’ve done which I’ll discuss here. A Wilson rocking a full stage 3 beard looks like a BeardOverlord, so it would have been really cool for his Beard to function similar to Wurts Clever Disguise allowing him to don his Stage 3 Man Fluff & walk amongst the Overlords without being attacked, Beardlings also won’t scurry away from him cause he just looks like a Bigger Beardling. Beard Hair could see extended uses to further help a “Newer player” or simply just be fun quirks to assist a veteran in not needing to use other resources- I was using the “Torch Toss” ability to fling a torch down at night and fish in the little ponds for fish last night when I realized I only had two silk left and couldn’t make another fishing pole after the one I’m using broke- What would’ve made a dang convenient substitute would’ve been being able to craft a new fishing Rod using Wilson’s Beard hair, (similar to how Walter can use poop pelts as campfire fuel) which would pair well with my SECOND suggestion, I hate boating in DST.. I mean I really hate it, but the “Torch Toss” ability on a fully specked out torch tree makes boating as Wilson at night a bit more tolerable because you can just fling one of these down on your boat (for me that’s mainly a Grass Raft) and continue paddling to your destination. I panic when I smash my wooden boat into something and it starts sprinkling leaks so my next idea.. While Boat Patches aren’t too hard to get on their own.. I feel like all that shaved off beard hair should function like clogging up your sink drain with a ball of hair. So the TL:DR of new abilities Stage 3 Clever Disguise against BeardOverlord/Beardling, Fishing Pole that substitutes Beard Hair for Silk in crafting, Hairball to clog up those annoying boat leaks (similar to Winona’s Duct Tape) These are the “Flavor Perk changes” I can think of after a character has already been reworked but Klei wants to further make playing as them unique (such as being able to raise sails or break rocks faster while in mighty mode as Wolfgang) Being able to convert Twigs to Logs or Vice Versa has been really useful in specking the Torch Skill tree to max, instead of needing to carry around Lanterns, I can just substitute torches for lanterns and ignore ever needing to go into caves to get Bulbs to refuel lanterns with. On older PCs or consoles the loading screen between Surface to Caves & back to surface again can be just enough to want to avoid, BUT should you opt to take a cave adventure… Wilson can also stash those Lightbulbs needed to refuel lanterns into his beard. With a “significantly slower” spoilage rate of items stashed into his man fluff, this would actually be a VERY useful perk for players like myself who can’t reliably obtain the more superior bundling wraps that fully prevent spoilage until opened. (WX78’s Fridgeration Circuit) For anyone looking to bust up those annoying SeaStacks use a Grass Raft and a Wilson with a fully decked out Torch Skill Tree & “Torch Toss” ability, throw your torch onto the grass boat and continue to paddle into them with great force, also remember to speck the Logs to Twigs perk, so you can craft more torches. Now if only there was a way to repair grass rafts constant leaking with the twigs I can convert logs into instead of needing the grass.. or maybe even all that shaved off Beard hair..? I won’t talk about Wilson’s Transmutation skill tree, because I didn’t invest into it and instead opted to fully spec Beard & Torch. And wanted to provide suggestions to further compliment those two particular branches. Thank You if you took the time to read this in depth feedback <3 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/147024-the-wilson-rework-extended-impression-additional-feedback/ Share on other sites
Ardcrumb
1 hour ago, Mike23Ua said: *snip* Honestly, the hairball clogging a drain idea is really funny and would fit well, maybe you could mix it with something sticky to make a type of patch instead? Maybe like honey. The transmutation ability is actually really good for getting rocks for stone walls, it's not a really good rate of transfer, but if you have over 300 flint like I did it can work quite well. I think the best part of this update has to be the beard hair rug to be honest, just looks really nice paired with checkered marble. Mike23Ua
Oh forgot to add some tidbits, Console Player QOL regarding Torches and Beard- Wilson players should be able to “drop” a torch from their Inventory to trigger the “Toss” perk of them lighting up on the ground, this skips the extra step of needing to “Equip” it first, and also prevents you from tossing them off your boat and into the water instead like I’ve done before.. -_- let us simply “drop” them same as you can a lantern. Beard Food Storage- Accidentally scrolling to this has gotten me KILLED more times than I’d like for it to, which is just stupid on a Console controller, Maybe pulling up the larger version of your Inventory (I think it’s RT on Xbox..) should be the ONLY way you can scroll to beard food storage? Speaking of Beard Storage: You can only move Foods from your Beard inventory, into a Crockpot by first pressing RT to open your larger inventory view, and then Scrolling to the beard tab by navigating the Menu in a U shape or |_| this is equally dumb and painfully unfriendly to console controllers. Like why…? Just Why? You couldn’t have added a way to press Y or something while hovering over food in your beard stash to instantly insert it into the pot rather than needing to grab the food from your beard, drag it through your inventory in a U shape to the crockpot?? This feels like something designed ONLY with Keyboard and mouse in mind.. -.- Lastly- it’s equally dumb that if I have stashed berries in my beard that any additional berries I pick up do not auto default themselves into the rest of the berries stashed in my man fluff.. Please fix these minor gripes. <3 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/147024-the-wilson-rework-extended-impression-additional-feedback/#findComment-1628894 Share on other sites
