Any chance they can fix DST on Switch?

Recommended Posts

I decided to buy the game on Switch a few days ago, I've played it on Ps Vita, PC, Android and even on Xbox One and... The truth is that the question remains if one day they will improve the Switch version, it's not even anymore the fact that its updates arrive months late is the lack of interest in improving the gaming experience and damn, it would be nice to play it without so many major bugs.

• 30fps limit.

 • The touch does not work to control the map, quickly manage the inventory, much less to manage the menu easily.

 • There is a delay between hits and it's too noticeable.

 • Poor performance for not wanting to make caves off until you enter if you're on the surface.

*Lazy Explorer or Soul Hopp no chance to adjust.

 • Impossibility of keeping basic data offline such as crops, recipes, DLC characters or skins (I understand that the last one is somewhat complicated but please, the characters...)

 • unidentified control pop ups when using it in portable mode (really annoying)

And all this is not solved, which should have been done since the day the Port was planned... Will the game really stay like this? I mean, the ps vita port worked fine until winter came, then it was unplayable. The port for android does not allow connecting Shipwrecked to Rog and vice versa. And now this Port is without a doubt the one that hinders a decent gaming experience the most... And the worst of all is that it would not require so much time to solve, much less it is impossible to solve

I'm not sure because of conflicting/lack of information available online, but it's possible Klei isn't actually the developer for the port. It's not uncommon for ports to be handled by companies other than the original developer.

I'm guessing Klei is actually the developer working on the port since I cannot find any information listing any other companies, but I did notice that most sites list Klei as the publisher, including the Nintendo Switch Store. I did find one site listing Nintendo as the publisher and Klei as the developer, but all others (again including the official Switch store) listed Klei as the publisher and did not list a developer.

That aside, from what I was able to find Klei apparently has only 35 employees currently, some who I would imagine aren't actually programmers. They have PC, Xbox, PS, and Switch on their plate (mobile also right?). They just came out of a pretty tightly packed schedule last year, and it seems there is a bit of drama going on here on the forums lately.

Not knocking you for bringing up your concerns, but with the current poor attitude directed at Klei by some in other spots here on the forums I just wanted to say I'm confident they will address the Switch problems at some point. Y'all will not be forgotten.

Hmm it's funny, the Don't Starve Alone and its DLCs have another developer... On the other hand, the Together doesn't and I agree with you, lately there's been a lot of trouble on the forums, I understand them but they still get out of hand haha .. I'm just a fan of the game which, come on... We are all aware that this port is not playable in real terms... And I hope they put fixing the switch version first and not the beta that came out a few years ago minutes on pc, duh

Jsyk, the reason Switch is massively late with updates is mostly Nintendo's fault. They have pretty strict rules about any title available on their console and they are extremely slow at checking everything. That also influences bug fixes, since Klei depends a lot on their fans to report bugs- which means that once a bug gets reported, noted and fixed, it cannot be simply sent with a hot fix. It has to wait with the rest of the upcoming update for approval and only then it's applied.

I totally understand. And yeah, I know with Shipwrecked specifically Cappy games was the dev there. I don't know about Hamlet, my wife plays but I never have. I'm guessing the loading screens on Switch don't mention any other companies.

We used to have pretty gnarly rubber banding on PS4 split screen after a few hundred days into a world. That was just how it was forever. That issue recently got fixed (much to my surprise and gratitude), so I'm sure they will address the more major Switch issues sooner rather than later. Some of them, like no skins in offline mode are what they are across consoles, though I feel like I read something that says that could possibly change at some point. Same with Soul Hop range, it just hasn't ever been adjustable (at least on PS4).

Another thing to keep in mind is that more than likely either the current employees at Klei aren't super familiar with the software end of the Switch, or any new hires familiar with Switch aren't as familiar with the DST code as older employees. I'd imagine one of these 2 options pretty much had to be true.

Anyways, hang in there. Bring up your issues from time to time. Klei may not respond much (can't say that I blame them, and if I'm being honest I've been a bit ugly myself a few times over the years) but they are listening.

With even more reason, a few days ago the Maxwell update came out on Switch but there was already evidence of these problems, which are not difficult to repair and for this reason I am doubtful whether they would leave it in this disastrous state or not... Although they are correcting the base game at last!! something is something xd

Look at it from this perspective- if you could only experience the game on switch, would you prefer to get a buggy version or not get one at all? Considering how Switch is one tricky platform, being pretty damn weak specs wise at the same time, it's almost impossible to get it to a good state this way.

Still, I hope they have a moment to fix some stuff before the next update.

Hmm maybe, in ps vita the port was for Blitworks... Bad decision since they never optimized particles, therefore you will have to play with 15fps in Winter... Too! I remember that Shipwrecked on Xbox One had an error in the volcano, if you entered there you lost the entire game without the possibility of recovering it (horrible) and that error was there for more than 6 months. And yes, hopefully they can understand how code is handled on Switch and stuff, as I say the adjustments themselves are minor, it's not about creating something as such, just adjusting the parameters that already exist. As crazy as it sounds, the game has no real performance issues, it's just bad settings.

No, I bought it and I have been unable to play it... The experience is too bad (impossibility to fight, play portable mode since you need internet yes or yes for Wanda for example and more) and I give you Borderlands 2 on Ps vita as an example , is appreciated and in fact becomes enjoyable! Only the game crashes every 5 minutes and you lose everything xd And as I said, the game has no real performance problems, the game reaches a stable 60fps, if Don't Starve base and its DLCs run extremely well on Switch even when it is poorly optimized on PC, it's just a matter of settings

Imagínese cuando el interruptor se pone al día con la actualización más reciente, tiene que pasar por todos los errores que ya se han parcheado, ¿no sería  gracioso ?

Well... When the update came out that introduced marine content and on consoles the sea was seen as a black area that could not be put on a boat for months xd

Regardless of how the game goes well, I think we would all be happy with the Port, although the other points are also important

Klei does not update every version of their games simultaneously at the same time, the Sea update was on PC for about a Year before it came to Consoles, DST was on PlayStation about a year before it came to Xbox, I’m honestly quite impressed with how fast Klei is catching the Nintendo Switch up to other consoles, and as far as I know Klei developed DST and it’s ports, I only know Lab42 ported Hamlet to Xbox because that’s the logo shown when loading up the dlc.

Regardless the Switch is the least capable platform of even last generation gaming consoles (why the player count is 4 when on Xbox/PS4 it’s 6) I’m shocked the game even runs at all on that platform, and they’ve already done several patches to address making that more tolerable, I’m sure there’s a lot more they will fix/patch/change AND fingers crossed the get some really good Cross-Platform servers up and running someday.

Because: They’ve teased that our lower player count limits could be “ignored” if we joined Online servers hosted from PC by letting us join a server as a client.

I shall remain hopeful for a day when PC/Xbox/PSN/Switch/ and maybe even Mobile can play together in Klei Official Crossplatform Mega Servers.

And by Mega Servers I expect at least 12 players :)

Clear! It would be great, anyway the point is not that the updates are almost half a year late, it is the fact that it is not a pleasant experience, it does not matter if the rabbit beta is not there for up to 2 years, just that the game does not feel good ... And as I said, the game actually runs at a good FPS rate, the thing is that there are tweaks in between that they refuse to do, just try the mod on Steam "Don't Starve Alone" and You will notice that the difference of not using it and if even in high ranges is ridiculous. If they could port Hamlet and make it run fine except when there are many particles on the screen, they can also with Together which is the most optimized by far.

By the way, the number of players is limited even on PC and if you activate for more players there is no noticeable difference.

It really doesn't make sense that Don't Starve and its DLCs run so badly on low-end pc but Together runs so well even on 2ram pc (I've always played on my government pc and it runs at 59fps maintained)
