Rubber Boots

Recommended Posts

Sometimes it is useful for there to be liquid on the floor in certain areas to prevent things from off-gassing or for cooling purposes.  The new Geotuner building is an excellent example of this where I would like to have liquid on that floor to prevent any bleach stone from off-gassing.

I propose a new type of "suit." Rubber boots.  They could have boot docks, checkpoints and even durability.  A pair of boots would be craftable at a Crafting Table, cost 50 kg Metal Ore and be repairable and available.  They should require a tier 2 tech.  Duplicants wearing rubber boots give off -10 decor and give a -2 Athletics penalty.

Why?  Because no one likes soggy feet.

Also this could add to the new Supply Closet.  Dupes could have customizable rubber boot colors.

It should be late-game suit, because it require isoresin

Why?  By the shattered planet, why?

I actually would much rather this to be an early game item and tech.  I just couldn't think of a more suitable material than plastic to make the boots out of.

Rubber boots wouldn't even prevent the sopping wet debuff, just the soggy feet debuff.  This would really only be useful for stress reduction and putting dupes in cute boots.

It would be awesome if they could be paired with the Oxygen Mask, but I'm not sure how well the game would support a dupe wearing multiple suit types at the same time.

mid and late game have atmo suit which is superior to the concept of rubber boots in all ways.

for that reason, the place for rubber boots in progression needs to be somewhere in the early game/ early mid game, before atmo suits.

since the main obstacle in getting suits is reed, these boots shouldn't consume it (imo), similarly plastic is locked behind the midgame and is often acquired later than atmo suits (second planet in dlc)

as for the material question, the gas masks are also made from raw ore only, so that could be a similar material base for these boots (just rename them to heavy work boots or sth similar).

other than that, the equipment system allows multiple things equipped at the same time, see for example how you can equip a snazzy suit and gas mask/atmo suit at the same time

OP edited to make this firmly an early game item.

I suggested boots before iirc. Or i thought about doing that.

Anyway if we could get boots we should also get glass goggles for protection from stinging eyes.

As for the material why not make them out of wood. Wooden sandals to keep you above water puddles. I guess that would restrict it to the forest starts though.

Also later in the game we could get a waterproof piece of clothing that makes a dupe permanently resistant to both soggy feet and sopping wet debuffs without having to put it on and off for just the price of some plastic and not wearing a snazzy suit.

Rubber Boots + Umbrellas would be great :congratulatory:

Rubber boots are being fabricated in the plasto-noodle-press, which requires plastic filament ( made with isoresin or plastic  ).

Also, wooden dutch clogs...Which make the following noise during dupe walking: Clogk clog cloggedy clog. Clogk clogs cloggedy, clogclogclog.

I originally suggested the boots be made with plastic but that would make them a midgame item and requiring Isoresin would make them a useless endgame item.  While these materials would make sense no player is going to make inferior rubber boots when atmosuits are cheaper and better in every way.  So I made them cheap and obtainable so they'd be a good early game option.

Also, hi Babba. :ghost:

Maybe there could be levels of soggy feet buff for different types of boots, so you could have an early game version made with say reed fibre which reduces the soggy feet stress a bit, a mid game version that uses plastic and reduces it further and then a late game that uses something fancy which both nullifies soggy feet, and adds a bonus 'comfy feet' when worn with an atmo suit in a wet environment?
