Ohh I love this! I usually include a 'chess area' somewhere in my base but its typically a chess board insipred area rather than being a one to one recreation. Always wanted to do a proper chess board build but never got round to it. Great to see it done so well! Thanks for sharing <3

several years back someone did this same build(only they covered both the white and black spaces with material instead of only the white). they couldnt actually visit that space because the lag was so bad x'''D i can understand why it is not a popular choice, hahaha. looks great though!

I plan on adding some Winona lights so they can follow the player and light the board during the night, should probably spread some fireflies on each space as well. And of course add more decorations, maybe festive trees with baby crows to watch the whole thing.

@glooomy shared a similar build in the old Base design thread which also used the idea of broken walls. 

I never showed mine here because I pretty much recreated glooomy's build into my world and then added some other decorations/changed the turf a bit. But here's my take on it anyway:

And yeah there's an actual game in progress going on here between me and one of my friends. Unfortunately he rarely joins my world so the game is progressing at a snail pace! We use red festive lights in a glowcap behind CC/FW statues to indicate whose turn it currently is (if it's glowing red then that side needs to make a move - currently waiting for him to move a black piece). And to keep track of the last move we put one red festive light on the board itself (currently near my white pawn on d4).

Chests near potter wheels have additional materials for statue crafting in case we need to promote pawns:

The way you worded it made me think that you're saying it's wrong and then I actually looked at his board and saw that both kings are standing on matching tiles which is indeed wrong and they should be swapped with queens. I like to use a mnemonic rule "Queen likes her color" that is popular in Russia. It means when arranging the pieces white queen should always be placed first on a white square and black queen should be placed first on a black square. Since kings stand next to queens their tile color would always be the opposite of their own color. I think of it as queen to matching her dress with the tile which is a thing girls like to do

Edit: Also thank you so much for posting your chess build, I kind of wanted to see what placing the book walls around would look like, it saved me a whole lot of headache having to break everything down lol.

Back again with new pens, a new look at bees and a new area near my megabase

lil bugger scaring the gators (and purple gem portal thingie is active cuz I can't find another waterlogged biome with grass gators)

Volt goat pen that will have more goats once spring decides to be my friend

Pen for rabbits? geckos? idk yet 

Bee farm area got a few changes

future crab guard/knight pen if they don't despawn or destroy the walls

and finally the crab king docks where i do the usual ocean content stuff and kill crab king everytime he respawns

like, there is a lot of stuff that is broken or disappeared which means there is definitely some corruption BUT I CAN LOG IN AND SEE IT AND RUN AROUND IN IT OH HECKIN!!!!!

this world broke when the moon quey update came out then the mod creator delisted it so i couldn't even turn the mod off so it would always error out but today it was reinstated and now i can play again<3<3<3 you guys have no idea, i am super motivated to basebuild again<3<3<3 heck, i wonder if enough of my builds are still existent on here to share? i know from my garden being reverted back to a way earlier version that it probably is all a mess but i am super excited all the same!

I used to set up W.I.N.bot, but when I changed it to another character, I always accidentally picked it up.And then I put it down,it won't work any longer. Besides, the generator is still too bloated here, so W.O.B.O.T. would be more suitable.

Since I have enough bananas and stone fruits, I don't need Lureplants anymore.Maybe they should retire.

The right side of the base is a clearing.I used to make it beach style, but now it's a little bar.When I get skin of chef hat , I'll keep perfecting it.

I love your stage build, I've been wanting to do one for a while! And this is such a lovely base! If you want ideas for a Merm kingdom, Jazzy (I think he's jazzystaves on Twitch) has a long-term world (I think it began with Wanda and so is called Wandavision, but switched to Wurt later). He built a swamp base for Wurt, and his designs are really cool!

The beginning of my cave base... I tried to make it look like the Lunar Grotto (I really love decorating with all the lunar plants and decor!) The other have of the storage zone is nightmare/ruins themed, and I'm planning on putting little mini mushroom groves all around, red/green/blue/moon.

Today I'm showing one of my most important farms in the game - it produces tons of grass passively. All the credit for the farm idea with the monkey inside goes to Gabriel Gabriel's YT channel where I saw it for the first time. 

I placed the pen close to the areas I visit often - about 1 screen away from my teleport hub. This way it gets loaded frequently as I walk by, and keeps producing grass.

I have 24 grass geckos in the pen. I spawned them before activating lunar rifts from bunched up grass in the place where this pen now is. I then enclosed them with a fence and placed a telelocator focus in the middle. Here's a quick summary of how the farm works since Gabriel's tutorial seem to be no longer available on YT:

• Step 1: Socket the telelocator focus in the pen with 3 purple gems. 
• Step 2: Go to Moon Quay with a telelocator staff.
• Step 3: Wait for the Unnatural Portal to start spawning things (or activate it by giving it a moongleam)
• Step 4: Once a monkey appears out of the portal, teleport it before it picks anything up (this way its inventory stays empty with 20 free slots). 
• Step 5: Go back to the base. Monkey will scare grass geckos and pick up grass after them.
• Step 6: Observe monkey's behavior and try to make sure that it doesn't get stuck by a fence trying to pick up something outside of the pen (a grass or a seed). If it does get stuck, pick up the item and walk away to deaggro the monkey. 
• Step 7: If monkey stopped picking up the grass and there's a lot on the floor, it means its inventory is now full and it's time to harvest grass. Walk in, kill the monkey, collect ~20 stacks of grass it drops, clean up any remains on the floor, socket the gems again.
• Step 8: Go to Moon Quay with a banana to get rid of the token, repeat Step 1 if you need more grass. 

Currently I have more than 4096 grass in that infinite chest near it, and over a thousand ropes, so the monkey went on unpaid leave until I need more grass. 

Corner designs. I left the scales empty so they don't obscure the pumpkin face behind it.

This design has a small flaw: When the monkey is inside, it tries to pick up decorative basket bunny traps, so I have to pick them up and store away when the pen is working. Sometimes frog rains also waste trap durability so I need to re-craft them. 

Monkey's workplace with waxed decorative grass tufts. 

I got some rabbits from tumbleweeds and couldn't find a better place to put them in. Later I rescued all the stray rabbits from the ruins and added them here as well. They keep my geckos company and like to cuddle together in the middle of the pen when the monkey is not there. 

Bonus picture: Working farm with monkey's inventory overfilled with grass: time for a cleanup! Before infinite chest I had all these chests there to store grass and rope in them. So convenient now with only one chest!

@linabagel That’s exactly how you do, @ and type whatever letter the person you want to direct your message to starts with, you should see a list open up, if you select their name it will look orange around it. Or you can just type their whole nickname after the @ with no space in between. Directly quoting also notifies them of your message so it works both ways.

I have half of my marsh biome built to look like a merm village. The other half is a normal base with a sizeable kitchen. I’ll share once I can.

I built this large warehouse to help me store non-stackable items and character items.

But some of the character items are a little cumbersome, and I haven't had time to organize them. (Not because I forgot my pencils and mini signs)

Awesome zoo! Reminds me of the one I built in one of my first worlds. I had other pens with volt goats and no-eyed-deer, and my pens were super small (koalefant ones hosted only two of each kind in each). Here's more ideas for what you could add to yours: slurpers, pigmen, beefalo, otters, rabbits, moles. Oh, and don't ever bother with bats! It's impossible to trap them in a pen, they sadly despawn after a while, and cannot be baited. I learned that the hard way when working on a small build I called "Church of Batptism" in a desperate attempt to make my cave entrances clear of bat drops (it really annoys me how cluttered they become over time with bunnymen hatches around). Even though the build didn't work for that purpose I still plan to build it, just without live bats.

Why are you in love with it? Care to share a little more?
I only see 2 different things from vanilla. I play mostly on console but I’m always super curious about some mods for pc. Legion is one of them, I wish more people would share their modded bases or creations more often. It’s so hard to find coverage of these mods and why they are appealing.

It just spices up the usual game play, gives you new stuff that you have no clue as to how it works, makes me feel like i'm hopping onto this game for the first time again.

it's also fairly big enough to be interesting to delve into, and is pretty well made all things considered.
