Pajamas checkpoint

Recommended Posts

Current -8 Athletics penalty of Pajamas is pretty severe and is pretty close to Zombie Spore penalty. I wonder if there could be an option to take them down without manual input?

Maybe something like checkpoint? Or Additional building, Pajamas Locker, that works only in Bedrooms and allows duplicants to put pajamas on just before sleeping and take them off after waking up?

Do we have pajamas now?

Yes, they are added in public_testing beta branch, when duplicants sleep in them they dream and produce dream notes, that can be used later by new POI thing.

The only problem is that I neither want my dupes to wear pajamas all day, nor I want to manually assign them every night...

Maybe we're meant to designate one/a few dupes to serve a subject in the sleep study?

I was thinking about it, but it feels inefficient to have somebody sleeping whole day. Maybe somebody with super high athletics who doesn't really need it because they work in one place whole cycle...? But still, -8 is a lot...

I mean, it's not the end of the world, but it would be nice to have some counterplay for that

What if pajamas were stashed on the dupe's bed during the day, sort of like table salt? But still individually assigned.

And if you reassign the bed the pajamas would fall to the floor, and someone would need to deliver them to their new bed.

that sounds nice and I'd love it, but on the same time it would remove any strategy and planning, and would make Pajamas penalty completly irrelevant and I'm not sure if Klei wanted go this direction.

I mean they could, but then they could balance whole thing in some different way... Maybe something with stress-causing nightmares?

I wonder how would it work for a narcoleptic dupe. Do narcoleptic naps count for the dream notes. That one narcoleptic dupe would be my choice for hanging in pyjamas all day.

good question, and I am so perplexed about this whole dreaming tangent. I feel like I am dreaming, this concept seems so out of left field.

They wanted to improve the game, so they decide to overlay yet another layer of game mechanics, not designed to help us survive. And in fact it is anti-progressive. Since they have to sleep to gain. Just wow.

It looks like dupes only accumulate dream time when they are sleeping in their bed in pajamas. I don't have any narcoleptics, but I know it does not trigger when a dupe is exhausted or gets stuck somewhere and sleeps on the floor. Update 10/19: I was wrong about this, I just saw an exhausted dupe sleep on the floor with a dream bubble, and another sleep hanging on to a ladder.

What does irk me is that the dream journals that get produced are not categorized resources (unlike vacillator recharges or data disks), so there's no way to transport them to a different planetoid. In my current game I've started on the metallic swampy and the Somnium Synthesizer spawned on the oily planetoid. So even though I could cart pajamas back to my main base the dream journals produced would be useless.

After 100 cycles you usually stabilize enough that you  don`t need mechanics that help you survive. After 500 cycles survival is trivial. At that point we could rather use some challenge. Making a few dupes sleep and write journals isn`t exactly a challenge but it`s something you have to go out of your way to do. I like this approach. Hopefully it will get expanded into something more interesting.

I almost think this should be reported as a bug. I`m pretty sure someone just forgot to add this to a category.

not typical for me. Once in a push I got somewhere close to barely sustainable 200CY, or more, not sure. But not realistically. They just have a different vision for the game, and that's fine. I am plenty occupied with other endeavors. ONI will always be special to me. I will continue to hope they stiffen up a bit and develop something that's highly regulated, and well comprised. Even the throwback versions would be fun to knock around in once in awhile. I would be thrilled to start again with Luxury Cosmos, a wonderful seed I stumbled onto. Love at first sight, my banner.
