The server browser is kinda bad

Recommended Posts

I'm surprised the server browser has stayed mostly the same aside from ui changes throughout all the updates. Sure it gets the job done but it's slow, it feels clunky and it lacks important options like setting a ping cap or limiting the amount of servers shown. I know stuff like this is usually on the backburner in favor of gameplay changes but i really think it could use a touch up because as it is, using the server browser is painful imo. Maybe i'm entirely delusional and the server browser is fine, opinions?

With the "???" issue still unresolved, would be nice if KLei added a country/state/region filter (perhaps with little country flags or a more clever and whimsical way a la classic DS) since for many servers in one's own area said ping estimation fails (relegating those servers to bottom of server list, forever ignored), but de facto ping is good when hopping & playing on respective server(s).

It's low on Klei's list of priorities.

Since is related to actual multiplayer gaming, should be among top priorities or at least somewhere in between. If they center some QoL fixes on minute clothing elements vast majority of people pay no attention to or care about, surely a better way to manage online server list would benefit DST as a whole (multiplayer being its selling point).

From my server scans the vast majority of players play solo or with one or two friends.  Then from my experience giving anecdotal evidence that other players find a server chain and stick to them.  To me it's similar to Valve's server list: Not the greatest, slow, and yet once you find the gem in the rough you don't use it much after.

I really don't have an issue. I usually play with friends on the same server so I just use the Already Visited filter.I occasionally play on pubs for things like Forge and haven't had an issue there. Still easy to find a good server.

I don't really see a need for any change to the server lists, I think it's good as is. There are many many many gameplay updates I would prefer be worked on over it.

I mostly wish there were some sort of country or language filter. For me, I love meeting new people and the best way to do that is playing with people who speak the same language. So it'd be nice if I didn't have to scroll through the seemingly endless list of server name's that don't even use the same alphabet as me- where communication is just not gonna work out. I realize one can filter out these names but there's far too many servers to sift through for this work efficiently.

While situation is what it is currently, it doesn't mean there cannot be improvements or have higher priority of being addressed. As a parallel for bulk player-base playing alone or, after familiarizing themselves enough with the game, sticking to a couple of community dedicated servers, most players (casuals) experience solely 1st autumn and a bit of 1st Winter; this fact doesn't mean KLei should focus on said 2 starter seasons, aka early-game content - and indeed they don't. I do hope some improvements will come for Servers List Browser at some point.

I like to play on my favorite servers, so I don't use it that often. That said, I sometimes just want to hop into a world that has just regenerated and find new people to play with. The problem is, that people generally don't find the ??? servers, so even if they fit exactly my needs, not many people join and the server almost always dies before the first spring.

I think the ??? issue should be a priority for the next QoL update.

I forgot to mention this but the server browser also does this thing where if you click a server and it's full it drags you all the way to the bottom??? like come on this was even a problem back in forge which was like 4 years ago at this point
