Night Light?...

Underwhelms me the fact Charlie still comes to turn the light off if it being lit with darkness

Night lights barely have an advantage than normal pits except to light ruins base up when we run outta star callers at the moment

I also rarely see it being used even in caves - players usually use a dfly furnace or campfire pit near the entrance and moggles/miner hat (and sometimes beefalo) while exploring caves and ruins.

Maybe make it work like an obelisk. Where at full sanity it does not provide light and at 0 it lights up. Also make it not require nightmare fuel. Basically fueled by nearby players insanity.

Maybe increase the decrease of sanity while burning it. It could be good paired with Bee Queen crowns if that were the case. Or maybe regenerate shadow equipment you're currently wearing while it burns. Both could be good solutions. Cost of sanity and fuel - regaining shadow equipment. If wearing bee queen crown - you get no equipment regeneration.
