Lagging in both Don't Starve games on High-end pc

Recommended Posts

Sooo i have a problem
I don't know why both games Don't Starve and Don't Starve Together lagging on a high end pc
I reinstalled my windows and disabled all mods but i can't get the games to run it smoothly

I tried to switch from 64 bit to 32 bit same problem
I have 60 fps then suddenly drop to 58 and it slow the game for 1 sec
I have all my drivers updated and the games are running with my Nvidia Graphic card
I don't have problems with Memory, Cpu, Gpu or Network in task manager it's all under 50%

Please help me:)

Laptop specs:
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10300H CPU @ 2.50GHz

Video Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 with Max-Q Design

Video Card #2 Intel(R) UHD Graphics

Operating System Windows 10

RAM 8.0 GB

Some areas poorly optimized. Poor PC cant even handle Hamlet  due to its... Unique features such as shadows or a lot of mobs/structers in game. Its ok to have FPS drops in some areas or after years of survival but in general you shouldnt have them 24/7.

that's the problem....in Don't Starve it's constantly when i move my camera

@LilPeep32 Try these settings in the NVIDIA control panel for the Don't Starve and Don't Starve Together executable:

Select the preferred graphics processor: High performance NVIDIA processor

Power management mode: Prefer maximum performance

Threaded optimization: ON

Triple buffering: Off

Vertical Sync: Off

I see you are also using a laptop, try keeping the laptop plugged in when playing the game. It might also just be a laptop issue imo.

it's always plugged

Did these settings work for you?

If it didn't I've got nothing that can be of use. All I can say is that I used to have a laptop that was more than qualified to run DST just like you but would always perform more poorly than my PC that I bought a decade ago for school. I think it boils down to maybe it just being a laptop issue.

are you using a SSD or HDD? How much RAM and is windows configured to use pagefile when not nessisary?

I'm using a laptop with a slow processor and intel 4000 series graphics and hamlet works fine outside of those damn brambles

edit: nvm just read RAM

Tbh, Klei stopped updating alone version of game so I think this problem is on game side, not yours.

yeah but it's same lag on Don't Starve Together and this game is updated weekly

Well the stuttering could be because your computer is using virtual memory (SSD) for whatever reason. It's unlikely but if you can install DS in a RAM Disk you could test if that's the case.
