Fixing skill tree mess

Few ideas how to improve skill tree mess:

1. Remove Suit wearing from skill tree and make it attribute just like cooking,digging etc. With every level decrease speed penalty and suit durability hit. This really would feel more natural then investing in mandatory skill tree.

2.Remove astronomy from research and make separate pilot tree:
Astronomy->Rocket Piloting I -> Rocket Piloting II

Again it would make more sense that we teach pilots about astronomy before we let them inside rockets. This puts piloting behind 1 point gate but is accessible for researcher without becoming a pilot.

3. Separate Mechatronics Engineering from Improve carrying. I feel mechatronics as a 5 point skill is a bit to expensive.

Improved tinkering->electrical engineering->mechatronics engineering

4. "Body" tree. This would contain improve carrying tree and 3 new athletic skills ( so 5 skills in total )

Athletics I  +2 athletics +x to holding breath

Athletics II +2 athletics -x calories a day

Athletics III +2 athletcis -x air consumption ( this would be the last skill of the 5 point tree )

5. "Mind" tree. It would be also 5 point tree but so far i got only 3 :) so if you got any ideas just write in comments

Stress handling I -> Stress handling II -> Stress handling III

Stress handling would reduce stress penalties by x%. This would make great skill for pilots and dupes that have to work on new asteroids or in harsh conditions.

I like the idea of interplanetary freighters being blue collar.  :(

Taking three skills means increasing the morale needs by six.  If the net gain offsets that, then this becomes a no-brainer, and those kinds of options don’t generally add much to games.

This would be kinda nice. I`d say it would be cool if each tier worked on more advanced suits. The first would just affect oxygen masks, second would remove the atmo suit penalty and the thinrd the lead suit penalty.

Astronomy fits nicely into the research tree but could be split into telescope operation and orbital research. Still the piloting skill is supposed to be available early so i`m not sure. I guess you can`t send a rocket without scanning space with a telescope so at least one dupe should have the right skill.

Mechatronic never made sense with delivery. Would be much better connected to the build skill. Still it`s a very restrictive one. with ti being cheaper it would be more common to pick.

Personally i`d like if there were repeatable skills. Athletics is already powerful enough to warrant spending points even if it didn`t give any other bonuses. Imagine if the last tier could be repeated for +2 athletic per skillpoint and 3 morale. This would open an interesting choice of keeping a super speedy dupe that requires really high morale. Other reperatable skills could include learning and strength.

That kinda goes against the idea of the skill tree. It`s supposed to be a tradeoff, better skills for higher morale requirements. If we could reduce morale requirements via the skill tree it wouldn`t make sense. For establishing new colonies we need fresh dupes or the skill scrubber. If high level dupes could live in a 0 morale cave then there would be no reason to provide any morale ever.

As for the stress handling it only applies to penalties, situations like soggy feet, poped eadrums etc. If your duplicant lives care free he only gets higher morale requirement without ever using this skill. So its not as straight forward as you think.

Imagine if we could train Athletics to Level 8, but the maximum carry weight on that level is 5 Kilo`s. :ghost:

The faster a dupe gets, the less the dupe can carry :confused: That would make dedicating skills more valuable and thoughtful. :flustered:

4. Дерево «Тело». Это будет содержать улучшенное дерево переноски и 3 новых спортивных навыка (всего 5 навыков).

Легкая атлетика I +2 легкая атлетика + x на задержку дыхания

Легкая атлетика II +2 занятия легкой атлетикой - x калорий в день

Athletics III +2 athletcis -x расход воздуха (это будет последний навык в дереве из 5 пунктов)

5. Древо «разума». Это также будет дерево из 5 пунктов, но пока у меня есть только 3, :)так что если у вас есть какие-то идеи, просто напишите в комментариях

Управление стрессом I -> Управление стрессом II -> Управление стрессом III

Обработка стресса снизит штрафы за стресс на x%. Это будет отличным навыком для пилотов и обманщиков, которым приходится работать на новых астероидах или в суровых условиях.

 

 

The running skill enrages more. Duplicants at a later stage run like a sonic. It will be right to make a branch of skills for running. And running itself either limit or remove the possibility of developing it. There will be variability - someone runs slowly, someone is fast but weak, and so on.
