[DLC] it's all fun and games until Klei kills my dupes.

Recommended Posts

So, with the buff & shine patch my "main" colony was retired due to high radiation killing off anyone. I shed a tear for my dupes and i'm now in an emotionally hollow state.

I swiftly rolled another colony because let's pretend this is not an addictive game at all, so I'm now around 200 cycles in and... I'm probably done once again.

Why, should you ask? there is no reed! not a single dreko or thimble in the inner ring. Closest one is on the hungry tree asteroid which is off somewhere in the outer ring and which is only an assumption of mine since i can't even see the damned thing.

When I've rolled the rad ocean asteroid I knew I was in for a tough challenge but how can you actually progress through mid game without reed?

I mean, you theoretically can progress through mid without thimble by just cooling with AT, perhaps pushing some plastic through petroleum refinery and slicksters at a horrendous ratio, perhaps even have enough data banks to research rad engine and do actually reach the outer belt without your dupes dying off rads...

...ok I'm in.

Still hate you guys for killing off my dupes though.

I've been trying a game with extremely limited use of exosuits and I've found you can do most things in this game without exosuits.  Pressurize the asteroid with oxygen, clean up slimelung, and use oxygen masks anywhere you don't have oxygen and don't not want CO2.  Worst case, you have your dupes hold their breath while building in vacuums.

For landing on planets, an oxygen mask should give you more than enough time to either build a landing platform or build a breathable environment for a dupe.

My radioactive ocean start has drekos and reeds in the inner ring. It just took me some time to get them for mass production. It is said to be the toughest challenge in moonlet start. Perhaps you can post your seed to let Klei check the worldgen rules?

You may wait the next update to start a new colony because you can adjust the radiation difficulty at worldgen.

you can use the radsuits as a terrible replacement, but they don't require reed

Do they insulate dupes? I need to check it because if they do, they might be useful to play with magma.

These are good advice, the atmos are "mandatory" where you need insulation too, though, which in my specific case is tackling the flipped asteroid.

I've also filled a couple of requests to better improve gas masks since they're limited to 30kg oxy and this dampen their efficiency to my eyes but I will give a go to lead suits in their stead, perhaps they will suit me well (pun absolutely intended).

I'm not 100% sure what happened. My speculation is that where there should have been a drecko spawn, a boulder or some other feature overridden it, preventing me to have fiber available. This, with the fact that I've never seen drecko eggs or drecklets as care packages makes me think that.

Don't get me wrong: I like the extra challenge, I'm that masochist, yes, and I'm pretty sure that anybody who willingly pursues rad ocean asteroid start is seeking torment himself.

I also had dreckos in my inner ring of rad ocean. Should be on the oil moonlet. Thimble reed should be on the metal biome moonlet.

I did some sandbox tests and found out that my seed was a very challenging one, because those that I've randomly generated afterward were all providing access to fibers within inner belt. I'm not sandboxing my current seed to not spoil me the fun but feel free to share the pain with me M-RAD-C-1197640075-0

Yes, and, judging from in-game stats, better. But they insulate from magma only for a few seconds, and atmo suits too.

This problem is not a problem. It just a map with higher difficulty, more challenges. My map do not have oil and reed in my starting two asteroid, also not within three travelling distance so i must figure out how to open up steam geyser safely without a space suit and build a steam engine to travel and get reed and oil.

Trust me. You can solve this.

Also playing on radioactive asteroid with no timble reed or dreckos in starting asteroid, though it was timble reed metalic swamp asteroid and dreckos in rocky oil asteroid. Of course had to get there without suits... Did not even used an oxygen masks... It's looking harder than it is. In fact despite hot places you don't actually need atmo suits. Dupes can hold breath pretty good.

Also in radioactive ocean asteroid I found that don't having fiber and plastic it's not mid game is early game problems, mid game problems begins when you realise that you also don't have a lot metal and need to find sources outside your starting asteroid... It was so difficult to manage first landing and getting my hands on metal resources, that after I brought back to base ~70t of both cobalt ore and gold amalgam, I spend 150 cycles to build what I couldn't before or even was deconstructing to launch rocket and make landing in other asteroid. In that time I accumulated lots of fiber and did not had any problems further.
