ONI memory lane how to play old version guide

Recommended Posts

I like to play older versions of ONI from time to time because it feels like completely different game over time it evolved. Also I'm doing this guide mostly for myself so I can get back to it later when I need it. Might as well share it right?

So to share what I know about steam depot download, I'm going to write a little guide for you for a little trip down the memory lane.

---1. you need to install microsoft DotNET 5.0 if you do not have it.

Go to https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet/5.0

get .NET Runtime 5.0.10 most likely windows x64 version and install it

---2. you need steam depot downloader from https://github.com/SteamRE/DepotDownloader

if you are lost just go to (current version) https://github.com/SteamRE/DepotDownloader/releases/tag/DepotDownloader_2.4.4

If you have it, unzip it and put it in some folder.

---3. you need command prompt at that location, so you have few options

press win+r type cmd and press enter

or press start and select run type cmd and press enter

or just click start and start typing cmd you should see command prompt app there run it

---4. once you have cmd.exe running you need to navigate to folder where you extracted your steam depot downloader

cmd starts usually like this c:\Users\cpy  (cpy - is my username, you will see your own username)

just type cd ..  (as in cd and two dots) and enter repeat this until you see just c:\>

If you extracted file to D:\Games\Steam Depot you can skip steps above and just type d: enter you will see d:\>

now you just go to that directory step by step

cd games (press enter)

cd steam depot (press enter)

---5. now comes the fun part the command itself sadly we probably can't go before agricultural upgrade so i'll post how to get latest patched versions of each major update I can find.

Warning! Command uses your steam username and password for login so if you're worried about your password as you should be, change your steam password to some temporary new password before doing this if you don't trust this app! Don't forget to change it back once you're done.

If you use steam authenticator it will ask for code right after you type the command so have it ready.

Now type into that command box for:

Remember every ONI update on steam will update to spaced out! You will have to copy from steam depot again!

Further lies spaced out so this is as far as I go.

Now that you downloaded your game inside steam depot you'll find downloaded depots inside folders with numbers like 457141 and inside that folder 7379531 you'll find files that most likely have oxygennotincluded.exe and some other folders and files

next go to your steam folder and inside steam\steamapps\common\ you'll find oxygennotincluded back it up or rename it to something else like oxygennotincluded.new

make new folder named OxygenNotIncluded and put all files from steam depot there so you'll see oxygennotincluded.exe directly in that folder

Next go to your klei/ONI documents folder eg. C:\Users\(your username)\Documents\Klei\OxygenNotIncluded and back it up make copy of folder OxygenNotIncluded, you'll need it later if you want to return to newest version again and you don't want your config files acting up.

Congratulations you are now playing whatever update you want!

Some versions might be off since it's my best guess based on release dates but it should mostly be it.

Anyone member this bad boy geyser?

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

And some ghetto style SPOM

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Back in my day... farming was hard and wild plants had 5 harvests and that's it! Oh and max yield plants made casino noises!

I wonder if drip cooling will work.

I don't have access to alpha version. I played it but can't seem to find way to get it on steam once more.

interesting about old version is that light actually matters for gameplay aswell. new versions is like if you have light or not it not matters really

I never noticed light being that much needed in AU.

well they could make it even darker as you are in underground after all

and yeah i do not see that dark anymore in au version. i quess they removed that idea

That was before I started playing. I remember I had looked at ONI several times back then, but dismissed it. I think I was bored one weekend in January 2018 or so and turned my life upside down by buying ONI ;-)

Well now you can use that damn noisy pod instead! I play version without any jobs so that's cool.

Also I noticed in my screenshot there is and excelent face sitting by Leira on Devon. Those naughty dupes!

Best part is, no lags, game runs like clockwork and I'm having lot of fun. When stuff gets big I fear lack of QOL performance will kill this too but, for now it works.

there is something up with animation tho at very old versions. when they hit the one point the full game just slows down including sounds and soo on

I would likely try it just to see if I could tease out my old map, Luxury Cosmos. As it is in profile banner. It was a testy version, Dupes were difficult to keep on task, among other things. But it also was before the 0kg 0cal lice. That are just laced with germs. I do deeply miss the round starter area, finding ways to get through the granite without needing dig2. When we had the jobs board. Not a huge fan of the head zapping. But LC was dreamy map. It was thrilling to try and tame it. Around time of Jobs update, maybe 1-2 before the pukey one. Sicknesses were 're-introduced'? Or some such.
