Wormwood and farming: How and why?

And how about watering the plot? I can't do that either

are you trying to water a farm plot created via the garden digamajig, or are you trying to water a seed planted in the regular ground?

Wormwood should still use plots early, because planting seeds in untilled ground takes longer since as you said, you can’t fertilize or water them without rain.

However, once you start getting a size-able seed collection started, you can then plant the excess seeds in ground, and you will get extra produce without having to accommodate another garden rig.

Hi, Wormwood main here.

Early game the best plant to farm are carrots.

Collect 40 or so carrots and give them to a caged bird for its seeds, then plant them straight into the ground. You can collect free fish from a swamp off some fresh merm corpses to start blooming (or use one man band). Walk by them once and you will get guaranteed seeds back. You can do this to keep yourself feed from autumn to spring. If you planted some other seeds on the side collect any corn and start growing those. They have twice the hunger and you can grow just 20 or so from summer to autumn to keep yourself feed forever with minimum effort.

Or just eat raw monster meat like any sane Wormwood.

What do you mean? A good Wormwood only eats the finest of delicacies, such as Honey Hams.

When really early game, I grab as much seeds as I can and plant them in a special spot. I set up a Birdcage nearby and some farm plots. Then I weed out the weeds, feed the crops I want to the bird, and then I can farm properly on the farm plots when I get enough specific seeds.

I sense some confusion regarding terminology in this thread, so I figured I'd drop by and sum it all up:

  • It doesn't matter if a seed was planted directly into the ground via Wormwood or into a hole made by the Hoe.
  • If the plant is on farm soil, it can get nutrients and moisture because you can use fertilizer and the watering can directly on the farm soil.
  • If the plant is not on farm soil, it cannot get nutrients. Period.
  • If the plant is not on farm soil, it can be watered, you just can't use the Watering Can on the ground directly. You can use natural or artificial rain or waterballoons to add moisture to the ground. Ice melting might work as well, but I haven't tested. And from what I'm told, you can use the watering can indirectly by extinguishing a fire on top of the tile you want to moisturize.
