Only Walter should be able to access Woby

Or the option should at least be there. Currently she just feels like a permanent Chester that you can't get rid of, and such with Chester, any valuables or materials you put in there are liable to get nicked.

I believe to differentiate this character perk from an item that anyone gets to pick up, the option to "lock" Woby to only the player or "open" her up for everyone to use should be introduced, a button and the bottom of her inventory GUI akin to the "cook" option of a crock pot. This would open up Woby to be used much more like a bag pack, and allow Walter players to use their chest slot for other things (such as log armour) which synergies better with the rest of his kit (you put the hat on to lower sanity drain form getting hit, and body armour to stop the health drain). I think these changes to be necessary in order to form Woby into more of her own addition to the game, instead of a pet/Chester you spawn in with.

Now I understand that there may be criticisms to this idea, which I would like to address now, but still welcome the discussion 

So anyway that was my post about what I believe to be a much needed feature for Walters furry friend, what do the other users of the forum think?

If people are stealing from your Woby, you probably have other issues in that session" - While I understand the idea behind it, fact of the matter is people suck and if I went about leaving every pub game where someone took something that wasn't there's given the option or a new player picked up something they thought they needed only for it to be a waste/ forget about it somewhere in their inventory, there wouldn't be any public games left to join! And instead of dealing with every player who may do this to you on a case by case basis, adding the option to prevent such a thing from happening in the first place sounds like the safer and smarter option

"But what if you die and need someone to get something out of your Woby to revive you" - Like the loot that lays on the ground for anyone to take once you die, it would be the same case for Woby, upon player death her inventory would automatically go to the "open" option, so just as before and like the rest of your gear people can take stuff from Woby.

People can steal and hoard stuff anyway, just because some people abuse the feature doesn't mean it shouldn't be implemented. Hammers are used to destroy objects that aren't needed but people still use them to try and grief and destroy bases. If you legitimately wanted to steal and hoard stuff the 9 extra slots from Woby is going to be irrelevant compared to what you can do with your inventory and a piggy bag.

 

Chester is open to everyone because he's an item for everyone that everyone can use, whereas Woby only follows Walter, the point of this is to make Woby different to chest, which you would have gathered if you read the post.

Imagine you die, and your life amulet inside Woby and noone can resurrect you because they cant open your woby.
It just your selfishness that only walter can access Woby.
People already have 15 self inventory slots + backpack/sacks slots noone can access. Why even bother needing more?

Woby should carry life saving stuff rather than stuff you dont want people to steal. In situations you would die instantly even if you resurrect(10 worms or 20 hounds + lag) One of the good features Woby has is woby keep following you even as a ghost, and if you bumb in to a new player far enough away, you can resurrect using contents in woby.

You can always check who steals stuff from your woby and kick them if they really are trolls, locking woby is not a solution to this problem.

Also in pvp, imagine killing Walter and going to loots his corpse and realize all his important loots locked in woby, totally unbalanced.

So, no, Woby shouldnt be locked in anyway.

Also if you've ever played on a public server (yes they do exist, and yes Klei should Design the game with them in mind) you'd realise some people pick up anything they can get their hands on and it's hard to get something back after they've left.

One example I needed my hammer that I kept in my Woby (because it's useless and no one would really want to yoink it) to get some moleworm for a rain hat just to find out someone had looked inside my Woby and helped themselves to it. Currently Woby is no different to a Chester aka a communal chest for everyone, instead of being a perk/sidekick/pet to Walter and this change would help to rectify that.

Woby deserves to be more than a Chester!
