Hey Grifters,

Big changes to smith negotiation today, and a new sal side quest. Have a nice weekend everyone!

  • Smith Negotiation Overhaul:
    •     Removed the following Smith negotiation cards:
      •         Who?
      •         Ad Hominem
      •         Connections
      •         Know a Guy
      •         Refusal
      •         Rescind
      •         Immunity
    •     Double Entendre now applies composure to all friendly arguments
    •     Turnabout applies composure to a random argument instead of all arguments
    •     Standing no longer grants aoe composure and instead applies increased composure when renowned
    •     Increased damage boost from Forgo to 2
    •     Buildup now deals less damage but is trigered by ANY argument being destroyed from any source
    •     Long Winded no longer reduces damage of cards drawn but is Rare
    •     Rehearsal is now rare and its effect lasts the entire negotiation
    •     Increased cost of Revision to 2
    •     Topple is now a hostile card
  • Added new sal side quest: side_termination_of_command.lua
  • made gut shot slightly quicker
  • Add a warning about health loss when removing parasites.
  • Updating the Agent tooltip, so that long names wrap down to two lines, instead of clipping through the background edge
  • Fixed bug where reversal_plus2 wasn't applying any counter at 0 combo
  • Fixed description highlighting on deceive_plus2
  • Fixed bug where Freebie would still expend bottles if you only had 1
  • Boosted Firestorm is now 3 Burn per charge.
  • Redesigned Mantle.
  • Clarify Temper condition -- it's only when you play an attack card.
  • Vicious: update text and behaviour for consistency.  It should trigger for each attack.
  • Apply legacies after new_game mutators, so that Veteran & Charisma don't clear your legacy bonus.
  • Show legacy card being added to your deck when entering game.
  • Fix Buster from applying.
  • Fixing the Mutators' tooltips, which were erroneously showing also the graft rarity frames
  • make rise literature cost scale
  • Fixed bug where "Spooked" sometimes wouldn't trigger because it was selecting itself
  • Auction starts with 2 Bidders. When destroyed, another Bidder takes their place.
  • Clarrify Bid card text.
  • Added new battle event that is broadcast after all checks for surrender are done, Changed the quitter drone and grout burr conditions to use this event instead of status_changed
  • Fixed the description of Smith's Moxie used in the custom UI widget

That's sad. They're like all the good negotiation cards. I wonder why the devs decide to remove them.

For some context, most of those are cards that spent Renown and it felt like they were fighting against the cards that rely on stacking larger amounts of Renown. The removal will quite likely be followed by a rework of those cards. The negotiation cards felt a bit cluttered and directionless, so the removal of these cards hopefully strips it down to the most important cards for each archetype.
Out of curiosity, what did you enjoy about them and what do you feel would be missing without them?

I thought cards that removed renown for strong effects were interesting. It contributed to the balancing act of figuring out how much risk you wanted to take by stacking renown. You would want enough renown to make sure you had access to the strong effects of these cards. And sometimes you would play them just because you overinvested in renown for other reasons.

EDIT: spoilered the next part, because I completely misunderstood one of the changes of the past week.

Spoiler

It looks like the self-damage from renown has been drastically reduced, so renown removal is less interesting now. I can understand those cards getting reworked then.

Have not tried Smith at all yet, but wouldn't it simply be like the "Empty" cards and "Fully Charged" cards from Rook? With two different playstyle available with a same mechanic? (either spending/stacking charges or spending/stacking Renown)
