Well there's your problem... sorry if I'm to straightforward.  Upgrade ram. And get windows 10... i5 is not the best choice either...the gpu I don't know for certain, do you play on a laptop? I don't know a hd 8500 ? Maybe "M", I thought,...

I think 4 GB RAM too small for ONI. This is the reason of crashes.  Check size of windows swap file, may be need increase to 15-20 GB.  And video card very weak. Lock 30 FPS in video drivers for smoothly gameplay. It max potential your hardware.

P.S. Not found specification about AMD Radeon HD 8500H. I guess it is like AMD Radeon HD 8550M

This game isn't really hardware intensive, but you do need more memory.

The best deal would be 16gb spread across 2 sticks for dual channel which significantly enhances performance compared to one 16gb stick.

You should also watch the amount of gigs the game is using from the memory, several people have mentioned that it seems to use up more over time, causing freezes 3 hours into a game play session

Windows 8.1 likes to use about 4gb of RAM, so you don't have much of any left to play the game.  You'll be hitting your swap file all the time.  For ONI I'd recommend a minimum of 12gb, especially if you're using your web browser at the same time.  I have 16gb of RAM, and I routinely hit between 10 and 12gb while playing ONI and watching YouTube.

Thats a major error in your judgement. ONI likes RAM. Normal gameplay can require up to 12GB, extensive gameplay even way more. Below 16GB its not even a good idea to start playing.

And it uses heavy CPU-Ressources. There are players on this forum, with an i9 and they beat this CPU to the wall with ONI.
