Ashkan, the Failed Mechatronics Engineer

Recommended Posts

This thread is to showcase dupes that are almost perfect, but also complete failures.  I'll start off by showing Ashkan, the failed mechatronics engineer.  In order to learn mechatronics, a dupe needs to be able to operate and supply.  In order to USE their skill, they also need to be able to construct things.

Research for faster learning? Check.  Loves to supply? Check.  Loves to operate? Check!  WOot! Lets get go...ing.  Wait.. What's that red at the bottom... Can't build? NOOOOOOO!  Clearly Ashkan is smart enough to engineer.. but apparently he hates getting his hands dirty.  Why does this sound so familiar?

Eh, I don't think it's so bad.  If nothing else, you can set it up in the priorities tab that unconstructive dupes can be dedicated to other tasks that need doing, such as ranching, farming, operating, cooking, or even decorating.

A dup can trap himself underground while only supposed to cut his nails...

At your own risk :D

I don‘t get it?
Dupes without digging can easily get trapped, but unconstructive ones?

And is this cool guy alone in your colony so that nobody else can do a little construction work? Than get him some company, hire some hardhats to do that task...

Oh, trust me, I know.

Behold this picture-perfect Kodak Moment I captured.  (Sorry it's a reddit link, but the comments in it are pretty great.)

UNLESS you're training up a mechanical engineer.  You can't build any shipping systems without a mechanical engineer, and only a mechanical engineer can construct them.  So, a mechanical engineer that can't construct is worthless.

Reddit has apparently broken the link.  My bad.  I wasn't allowing "embedly.com" to run scripts.  Nevermind.

Just gotta work with what RNGeezus throws ya.  And sometimes that means hitting the Reject All button.  :p

Next up in the showcase is Joshua.  He's a bit special.  Seems he climbed an invisible ladder and got stuck.

... If he's still stuck after I reload, then I'll write up a bug report.

For the curious, there was a ladder there that I replaced with sandstone tile.  Later I destroyed the tiles to open up the space and ... apparently Joshua thinks the ladder still exists.  But only for climbing.
