How to make mod character have a world select screen image?

Hello, I was wondering is it possible to make mod character's image show up on the world like vanilla characters do? The esctemplate seems to have images for saveslot_portrait, but it doesn't do anything

theres a client mod called Mods In Menu, which let's you add mod characters to your menu, in the saveslots and curio cabinet. It's too bad klei never added support like this.
