To extract the salt from the boiler you need an auto sweeper and I'm not ready for that yet. To move 10kg is about the energy cost of an aquatuner and they are heat generators and there is a very long dupe time sink in getting the salt out so I would say it could be one of the most expensive buildings for doing something you can do in the environment. bsambrone
What about running the hot salt water up to the surface into a pool, then dump hot regolith on it to get the salt out (if that's what you want) then do something with the steam? You need a way to get the cooled-down Regolith out again (use conveyor rails in the first place?) but I expect that would be possible. I found that for using the full amount of Regolith raining down, you need 3 conveyor rails in parallel. psusi
I think the desalinator is bugged. According to the wiki it produces 8 kDTU/s compared to 16 from the ice maker, but it feels like the desalinator is making at least 4x times more heat than the ice maker. In just a few cycles of running maybe 12% of the time, it got the area from around 30 to 40 C and was heating up the oxygen going by in ducts from 25 to 35. This thing is going to have to have its own liquid cooling loop and be in an insulated room. Maybe I should try boiling it. It looks like it will take about the same amount of power as the desalinator, but won't be producing heat. Then again, it will take up more space and metal to build and require an atmo suit dock and oil seal to get the salt out. Hrm... maybe I should just stick with the desalinator and use the second AT in the steam turbine to cool it. Hrm... well, it wasn't the full 95 C because it had been sitting on the natural terrain bleeding heat into that biome, but yes, it was still fairly warm. I *think* I used insulated pipe but yea, the water sitting in the building may be interacting with the tile under it right? So maybe that tile needs to be insulated. Yep... that could be it.
