Mullematsch
So I recently starting playing around more in debug mode and fiddling with fun designs and I thought I would post them and see what you guys think. I don't want to spam my content here so I will put it all in this post and update it with new stuff, corrections etc.. Also personally I don't like watching videos and prefer seeing gifs and text so I will do my best to provide text and picture based explanations as well as the videos. Link to the world download is always in the description of each video: Sensor + shutoffs to replace gas / liquid filter: Spoiler I never build "normal" filters. Everything a filter can do, can be achieved with sensors + shutoffs. Advantage being way less power consumption; does take refined metal though. Connection sensor + shutoffs directly (with or without a not gate) is not 100% consistent, the designs shown here work without issues. Sorting only two gases (like oxygen & hydrogen): Sorting one gas and everything else to overflow: Spoiler How I like to set up cooling loops: Spoiler This came in handy when I build a giant wild farm and wanted to keep it cold but not too cold. This is assuming your coolant is way colder than the desired temperature so you only want to send in tiny amounts. The shutoff gets activated briefly (filter gate value) and then waits a while (buffer gate value) to check again if it is still too cold. If you don't want to have it check all cycle (because of lag) then you can add another not gate and a clock like in the gif. Only if the clock is not active, the design will be running. The setting of the temperature sensor always has to be reversed (above is below; vice versa). Spoiler How to turn polluted water into oxygen: Spoiler Credit to Yunru for inspiring this: Goals for this were a duplicant can mop all cycle long; no walking around. Using a bottle dropper design so you could transport the polluted water bottles wherever you need oxygen. From my testing the tiles below the polluted water have to be airflow tiles and no gases can move around. Not a problem usually since there is always polluted water on top (door closes if there would be too little which blocks the mop order): The bottle dropper could probably be optimized. The one I used in the tutorial ended up giving me trouble, so I switched to this which has been working great: Spoiler How to set up the famous "Hydra Electrolyzer": Spoiler Never over pressurizes and automatically sorts Oxygen and Hydrogen. Same principles can be applied to rust deoxidizers. Just showing how to build it in survival and how much liquid you can use: Spoiler Automatic pacu farming: Spoiler Very easy design would be something like this: The above design feeds 2kgs of algae per cycle no matter if there is one or two pacus in there. The design below detects how many pacus are in the chamber and feeds either 1kg or 2kg per cycle: More information about water temperature, size of the overflow tank etc. in the video. Also reading this thread, you could probably make this more compact. Especially if you want to build several farms. Spoiler Boiling oil to petroleum with a metal refinery: Spoiler I am not sure how great this design is. I did let it run over night and had no problems but I wanted to do it in a bit of a weird way. Pump is out of steel, depending on the oil temperature, you need a turbine or not. It is using the "trick" that if you limit the flow to 10% of the maximum throughput, that your liquids / gases do not go through state changes. 100C oil input, 260C petroleum output. You probably want to run in through a turbine anyways so I implemented it into the design, that way higher oil temperatures are also fine: Spoiler Early game cooling (gold aquatuner); pincha peppernuts to consume the hot polluted water: Spoiler This is kinda cool if only steam turbines would not be so good. Duplicants go the bathroom which provides a surplus of water (5kg clean water in, 11.7kg out). The polluted water which gets mixed with the water seems to be around dupe temperature ~37C which means that you can use this to cool down geyser water. Spoiler Airlock magic: Spoiler Alright, so I don't know what happened but I randomly started playing around with proper airlocks (dupe checkpoints etc.). Designs are based on Yunru's airlock. The design work until they don't And thanks to mathmanican, I lost two days of my life playing around with waterfalls: Spoiler Automatically fill up hatch ranches: Spoiler I always get annoyed when the dups wrangle a critter but then don't deliver etc. so I came up with this. Hatches get dropped into the ranches if there not enough in there. Ranches get filled up top to bottom. Hatches get sorted by age left to right, oldest to youngest and automation makes sure there is always only one egg in each chamber. Spoiler Maximize power of steam vents: Spoiler Steam turbine power maxes out if the steam is at 200°C; anything hotter and you are wasting the heat if all vents are open. The build makes sure to only run the turbines on the side with 200°C steam and the middle one, only if there is too much steam or if the steam is below 200°C. It uses a bead pump (valve is set to 0.1g); more information here: Spoiler Door crusher space design: Spoiler Basic design; opens and closes bunker doors. Activates door crusher for set amount of time. All values can be adjusted: Settings: Filter gate (145): When to close bunker doors; powered bunker doors take 45 seconds to open/close. Filter gate (35): When to activate the door crusher and open the doors below the scanners. Filter gate (85): How long the doors below the scanners stay open & the clock for the door crusher is running. Spoiler Morb farm: Spoiler The video goes into more detail but I realized that morbs produce way less polluted oxygen if they are confined in a small area. Your farm should be 5+ blocks wide. Also wanted the automation to be consistent. So even if a morbs gets stuck or your worlds gets kinda laggy, it will not break the design: The hydro sensor is for a permanent true output; could be anything. The critter sensor below the door is to shut off the design; could be anything. Spoiler Hydrogen vent - self cooling: Spoiler Pretty simple. The turbine is able to cool itself down which allows you to use a steel pump. Hydrogen output is ~135°C. Spoiler Everything about wild farming: Spoiler This is mostly two videos summarizing this amazing thread plus some personal anecdotes. The ways shown how to create natural tiles (3-5 cooking algae, fertilizer or slime) 1. Door trick: 2. Shove voles: 3. Glass forge: 4. Metal tiles below; heat of aquatuner, metal refinery etc.: 5. Space heaters for large area (low pressure hydrogen): How to plant big wild farms; again peep the thread above: Arbor trees: Mealwood, Bristle Blossom, Waterweed, Gas Grass, Dusk Cap, Thimble Reed, Sleet Wheat, Nosh Sprout: Pincha Pepperplant, Dasha Saltvine: Spoiler
BLACKBERREST3
Didn't realize you had a youtube channel, I would've posted you sooner in oni university. 19 hours ago, Mullematsch said: Automatic pacu farming: One of the reasons that feeding more than 1 pacu in the same tank with only 1 feeder did not work for me was because only 1 pacu would eat constantly from it. I don't know why it didn't occur to me about the delay it takes for a pacu to move after it eats. in light of this, I might be able to condense the farm much further by just matching pacu feeders to the number of pacu in the tank. I'll do some more testing on this in the meantime to see what the relationship is between space, pathing, and eating with pacus. I also have to make sure that pacu don't get stuck idling off screen (something to do with how the game processes based on your focus).
BLACKBERREST3
It seems 18 pacu is too many. And also the fish feeders take pressure damage even though they're made out of metal...

Another interesting thing is you can flood the feeder and increase the amount of water tiles that way, however it breaks if you reload the game. BLACKBERREST3
There sure is Some people have suggested it gets stickied. Not getting my hopes up too much, but that sounds sweet. I'm still updating it with new threads and info. 21 minutes ago, Mullematsch said: Did you run into any problems with your design? This looks pretty good. I'm testing that long term right now in my current map. I had to restart because of achievement shenanigans. Spoiler 21 minutes ago, Mullematsch said: Another interesting thing is you can flood the feeder and increase the amount of water tiles that way, however it breaks if you reload the game. I might have to try something like that, I'm still going to try and minimize water usage though to see how space/water efficient it can get. I have to worry about water and airflow as well if I build the feeders too close to the water line (pockets of air). I noticed you have two tutorial playlists, should I post both of them under your tag in the university or did you want to condense those into 1 later. added

I am assuming you are referring to: Oxygen Not Included Tutorials & Oxygen Not Included Tutorials & Interesting Stuff The tutorial playlist is only tutorials, the other one has the tutorials + stuff like the airlocks. I did not make tutorials how to build them, just showcased the design - why would anyone want to build an airlock like that. Just only link this Oxygen Not Included Tutorials & Interesting Stuff playlist. Thanks
BLACKBERREST3
If you still want to do texts, pics, gifs, and download links on here, I can add this thread too. I personally like watching videos, but sometimes it is hard to pinpoint info so I end up scrambling through a vid to hunt for it. Threads make the info easier to read no doubt. I guess what oni university does is bypass the not so good search feature of the forums

BLACKBERREST3
Will do. I do something similar with another thread that has all my blueprints in it. Spoiler Some things have changed in my builds/designs, I just haven't gotten around to updating it yet.
