End of cycle dupe amnesia

Recommended Posts

At the end of cycle dupes abandon anything that they are doing.   If they are carrying something they drop it.  If they are performing a task they abandon it.

For example, if they swept an object that object is dropped but it no longer retains the sweep attribute.  For build and deconstruct tasks I am not certain about whether it is later resumed or just abandoned undone.

This all leads to very annoying situations like melted ice, wrangled critters showing up in the wrong places, and even eggs that rot in the ground instead of getting delivered to the right places.   And the only way to avoid it is micromanagement, which ruins the enjoyment of the game.

Is there any plan to fix this behavior so that abandoned tasks get continued after the end of cycle, or perhaps retain their original pre-pickup status so that another dupe can pick it up and continue the task to completion?

It's not really at the end of the cycle, it is when the dupe gets off work. Which happens to be at the end of the cycle when you stick to the original schedule. But anyway.

It has been like this forever, and most complaints have stopped. Not because it isn't annoying, but because Klei is unresponsive on this issue (as they are on, well, almost all issues). So, people have given up and try to live with it.

There's some things you can do to soften the blow (like storage containers that accept ice and only allow access to dupes that are confined to your base) but mostly... You just need to pay attention. Or mop up the mess.

EDIT: All orders that apply to tiles (construction, digging etc.) persist. They might no longer get shown if almost finished but they will get finished.

This isn't right.  By default, the save occurs when they wake up, not when downtime begins.

The odd thing is that if you re-mark the item to be swept it retains its previous priority.  So if you have an egg marked to sweep with a priority 7 and it gets dropped to the bottom of the ladder, if you re-mark it it's already set to 7.

As for deconstruction tasks, the little 'flag' that hovers over it disappears but the task remains.

we've been asking for dropped items to retain their sweep command for what feels like ages.

all in all, its a minor if annoying issue thankfully

I couldn't say it better.

I've taken to putting my room doors 1 block up from the floor so that when dropped items result in a water spill it is easy to mop.

Still the constant micro-management to handle the consequences of dropped items is annoying.  Would be better to spend the time focusing on design issues.
