Error with the sound device initialization

Recommended Posts

Hi folks.

I get this error since few weeks. I often play without sound from the game so I didn't bother be that much, and I was hoping the bug to be a fault into audio driver, so to be solved by itself. But no success, I still cannot get sound and I want to get it back.

Since there's some very good ONI player here at computing, I'm asking for a bit of help.

The pop-up :on the main screen :

My Laptop :

GE72MVR 7RG Apache Pro

Intel Core i7-7700HQ 2.80GHz

RAM 16.0Go

GTX1070

Windows 10 64bits (ver. 1903)

OS firm. : 18362.295

Sound card devices :

As far as I get it, those are updated. I've tried to force the update, it told me so.

I'm using an after market Software :

It is updated, I think (I've checked).

I've tried to disable it by closing the process, but the problem is the same.

EDIT : note that ONI is the only app that bring me this error. I've other games, and other Steam games, and media player, and so on, and I've no issue.

EDIT 2 : I've tried to uninstall ONI and install it back, in case it didn't get a recent audio driver update that could have been done, nothing better, same error.

Any idea about what should I check or do ?

Thanks folks :)

Yes and all looks good there. Your realtek driver is more updated than what I have on win 8.1. Could be related to Win10 updates but I don't keep up to date with that sorry. Other than that did you try turn it off and on again :)

I'm not sure when you upgraded to Win 10, but after some system upgrade/update (one of the regular ones, a while back though), it had disabled mic and video input for everything but native windows programs or some such stuff (for privacy reasons), so privacy settings might be something to check?

Hey @OxCD, thanks for the post.

The text on that screen is actually a bit outdated: the #1 reason we see this issue is third party audio software such as Nahimic, so I'm not surprised to see you say you have it installed.

I would recommend disabling and/or uninstalling Nahimic to see if that fixes it, and then at least we know where the issue is coming from!

Hi ! Thanks for your return. It may be a bit more complicated as I have pointed out in my original post that I've already tried to kill Nahimic process... :-/ I could try to uninstall it indeed.

So strange as it was working all the time, since few weeks.

One lead is a big update has been pushed by Microsoft, during... August... if I'm correct ^^ since then, I had an error on my sound devices, showing that one entity (may be Nahimic, can't remember) couldn't communicate anymore with my Realtek audio drivers. I've uninstalled Nahimic, and my Realtek drivers, then I've downloaded each updated version of these, and installed it back. Everything was back to normal with audio, each game, each browser, each media player, but unfortunately Oni didn't follow. This issue appears then.
