cpy
It's a miracle that this game even runs on system like this. You really need a new pc. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/110850-lag-low-fps/#findComment-1248836 Share on other sites

SamuraiJones
There are lots of tricks to increase framerate. You might investigate some of those. But that is a fairly low end setup (no judgement here, I just replaced my nexus 5 last week). But the lag only gets worse as the base grows. And most bases never stop growing. Lag is the entropy of the oni universe. Lag always increases. Universes like ours inevitably end in heat-death. Theirs inevitably end in framerate-decay. Lutzkhie
this is because of the minimum requirement of the game it should be updated. New players are hoping to play this game till the endgame but only to be disappointed when lag starts Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/110850-lag-low-fps/#findComment-1249021 Share on other sites

Mind to elaborate on that and share some tips? I heard of stuff like cleaning the litter lying around and reducing pathing options for dupes and critters. I'd be happy for any more tips on that - my system isn't that beefy either (quad i5 @ 3.4 GHz, 4 GB RAM, I have the feeling RAM is quite important). I noticed the biggest issue is the autosave - I just turned it to every 10 cycles, removes a lot of waiting time. Apart from that, save every bit of RAM you can - close every process/application (*especially* the Firefox browser... this thing just eats RAM for breakfast) and it is somewhat okay. Just the occasional hickup/freeze every so often (where you just sit and can't do anything, like it was saving, except it isn't - in fact in some cases I did nothing to warrant that). Still, I guess we all hope the next couple updates (there are some more coming, right?) focus a bit on the performance aspect, especially for huge sprawling bases. Your processor is OK, but won't give a lot of performance. You should see about 30fps for most of the game except... You need more ram. 4 gb means you're hitting memory swap a LOT. With Linux, I'm sitting at about 7gb of RAM used while playing ONI with Chrome open. Of that, ONI itself is using 3.8gb. Because every tick means analyzing every discovered cell of the map, you're pretty much actively using ALL the RAM that ONI has allocated. This is probably the main problem with your performance. Your GPU is irrelevant. ONI is primarily processor based, so your GPU isn't really used. If you can display graphics at all, your graphics card is probably just fine for ONI.
