Argelle
So few threads on planetarium or data bank. May be you can help? To go further (rocket) I need this tier III research. But from the tool tips I gather that planetarium need 10 data banks. Fine, except it's on a space mission? (with research module) My poor dupes are not flying into jet packs yet, so rocket science is out of reach. I must have overlooked something.... (telescope ?) DemainaNyx
You have to set up a rocket to get these data banks. The telescope allows you to send rockets because you need to analyze a planet first before you can travel to it. The first rocket you unlock is a steam rocket, which should be more than enough to get you to the first few planets available. Put 5 research capsules on a steam rocket and go to the first planet. You should get something like 50 data banks from that trip alone which should be enough to unlock better tech. If you don't unlock enough, you can go back to the same planet multiple times but you will get less data banks than the first time, but it still allows you to get what you need to research everything. So while it's ideal to visit a planet only once, you can repeatedly visit near by planets with a steam rocket to get enough if you find you are short and can't upgrade to the next tier. It will take a while, but it's possible and since steam is easy to come by you don't feel too bad wasting it unlike petrol or liquid hydrogen. Gurgel
You get your first data banks by sending out steam rockets. Research modules needed.
Rhogar
Use 6 research modules. Rounding errors will find you short.
Nebbie
How to get data banks? Well, I've gotten some with my current base's (kinda terrible, right now you can see the robominers not doing much due to power issues, plus a big regolith pole from an oversight in their placement) space setup... Spoiler Automation (left scanner detects the rocket returning or being ready, forces open doors and retracts gantries; right scanner opens doors when no meteors): Spoiler Ventilation to fuel the rocket with steam from regolith in the water using steel pumps and reservoirs, oxygen for telescope (don't worry about the random carbon dioxide, it seems to just be deleted on going into the steam engine): Spoiler Plumbing overlay is really boring by the way, the water is just let out up top to cool robo miners and provide a source of steam; that whole setup with cooling indoor solar panels turned out to be a bad idea since they won't conduct heat out in vacuum even if debris sits atop them. Argelle
So, no mistake, I have to go to space I missread the research tree, thinking tiers III is to discover rocket parts but indeed you can go to space with less. Thanks for all your answers !! Only @Rhogar message is cryptic. 6 ? rounded from 10 ?
Rhogar
Research modules per steam engine. If rounding errors did not occur, two 5 research steam launches to the 10k planets would give 2x(5x10 data banks base + 5x50 data banks for first landings) for the 600 research for petroleum engines. I recommend six research modules per engine to get 20 more data banks ensuring you minimize the time spent on steam rockets. Also https://oni-assistant.com/tools/rocketcalculator can let you zero in on the fuel needed so you don't overfill on fuel.

I have always used 5 research modules, and I can confirm that rounding errors do short you a bit. I always get nervous about getting petrol rockets before I ran out of good research opportunities at the closer planets, so I recommend going for it first.
