Most versatile geyser combinations?

Recommended Posts

I think a cool slush geyser would cover most thing: oxygen, polluted oxygen, cooling, water, polluted water, nat gas (fertilizer maker), hydrogen (electrolyzer).  With that you can grow mealwood (sieve to p.dirt and compost), mushroom (offgas to puft for slime), bristles and sleet wheat (sieve to water and cool), pincha peppers, and nosh beans (water converted to food for dreckos for phosphorus and water cooled).

Would need a leaky oil fissure or oil reservoir (oil, petrol, co2, heat), a chlorine vent (squeaky pufts, lettuce, dasha salt vine, gas grass, gassy moo), and a salt water geyser (lettuce, table salt, oxygen).

A volcano would be nice for free hatch food (igneous for stone, crushed to sand for regular, dirt/slime/p.dirt for sage) and power, but is not needed.

The only critter that you couldn't feed easily from this would be a smooth hatch, though with rockets you could continuously go to another planet for food for it but it would be a pain.  Though, that isn't a problem with a choice of geysers but rather because there is no renewable source of raw metal on our asteroid.  And since gassy mood don't reproduce your have to continuously replenish their ranch.

As far as quantities of geysers, you need a lot of water to run something like this.  Luckily the salt water geyser and oil geyser would help with that but I don't know how much exactly.   Depends on dupe count, critter count, farm tile count, and what constitutes good for you.   Are you fine with dupes living in 0.5k of oxygen or do you want 2k always in all the walkable corridors?  Can critters be starving and glum 90% of the time or must they always be full, happy, and groomed?  Are you growing just enough plants to feed your colony or do you have a surplus of food sitting around?  How many dupes are eating which recipes?  Also, what is the output of said geysers, because that changes the quantity you'd need.

I'm sure someone will come in with exact numbers at some point but I don't know that off hand.  That said though, most seeds have 2 uncovered cool steam vents and two uncovered nat gas geysers so you wouldn't need to derive everything from the four geysers I mentioned.  Instead have the included geysers cover you basic needs and then have the 4 necessary ones just fill in where needed.

At minimum a chlorine vent and a salt water geyser for the non-renewable ressources, and enough vents or geysers to make at least ~3 kg/s of water to produce oxygen for 25 dupes. I think all maps or most of them have oil reservoirs, they can be used to make energy, natural gas, carbon dioxide and more water.

Water is really the most limiting factor. Other geysers are not necessary, but having any one of the metal volcanoes, a cool slush, and a natural gas vent would make one's life much easier.

The colony would also need to be on an asteroid with rust biomes as I think nosh bean aren't renewable with the printer.

Not exactly an answer to the specific question, but closely related: petroleum/sour gas boilers have a positive water output compared to the 1kg/s that goes into the oil well (167% for crude oil->sour gas -> nat gas -> PH2O). It takes quite a bit of effort to scale it up, but technically late game you could achieve an insane water production if you have a bunch of oil wells and are willing to scale this up.

So in terms of geysers, while a high water output is certainly helpful I don't think is strictly needed to achieve sustainability for 25 dupes late game (I'm speculating, admittedly I never got to that number since I stop at 16). The geysers that I would want are Chlorine to make it renewable. Salt water is now guaranteed so that's covered. A bunch of oil wells for the aforementioned reason (the buried oil trait is great for this). While technically not needed (unless you're on arboria), a gold volcano is also very helpful. Natural gas geyser are guaranteed unless on arboria, if you're playing there I would try to get at least one of them too, it's a really nice early game boost.

Except on "The Badlands".

Plant Seeds currently (355043) not available from the printing pod: Mealwood, Buddy Bud, Sleet Wheat, Nosh Bean, Salt Vine, Water Weed, Sporechid(, Gas Grass).

---

Asteroid agnostic: some Oil Wells, more than 3kg/s of Water (guaranteed Cool Steam Vent + X)

Asteroid specific: A Gold Volcano for the Badlands and Arboria (currently).

Optional, but nice to have for food variety: A Chlorine Gas Vent, and on The Badlands a buried Salt Water Geyser.
