lunazone
I noticed that the game now has achievements listed, is this a bug or are they just placeholders. Nightinggale
It has been discussed before. Odds are that they are leftovers from Klei testing achievements and that we will get proper achievements in the final release. In fact Klei has said something like they should integrate the features of the platforms they are on, including achievements. lilibat
I hope they leave those though. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/106905-steam-has-two-achievements-listed/#findComment-1202669 Share on other sites
metallichydra
i believe that there'll be an achievement for finding all investigation notes, journals, and files from the ruins. Nightinggale
"Slave worker" Launch a rocket without ever having build any generator other than manual generators. "Steamed up" Use steam turbines as the only power source for 10 cycles, producing an average of at least 1000 W. "Crowded" Have 50 dupes at the same time. Achievements are meant to be hard to get There should also be easier achievements, such as survive the first 100 cycles without ever losing a dupe. People should feel that they actually gain achievements once in a while or they will give up because they are all impossible. Sasza22
Achievements are an easy way to give people milestones and challenges when playing. Many people complained they got nothing to do after getting stability. Imo achievements should include: Launching a rocket. Farming all types of plants. (on farm plots) Taming all types of critters. (including morphs) Creating all types of food. Getting to the end of the tech tree. Crafting all of the molecular forge materials. Finding a burrowed geyser. (or finding 100 of them over multiple games) Those would give an incentive to explore the game world a bit more and try some new stuff. Especially for the new players that don`t have much idea how to make a sustainable base. On top of placing a goal for the players, we can see how many percentage of players have each achievement, meaning we will know if it turns out that only 5% figures out how to get far enough to actually do it. Perhaps add an achievement for each type of rocket engine. Generating natural gas from crude oil (boil-freeze approach) would be interesting, but it would likely be unreasonable to code. Whenever an element becomes another element, the game deletes the old element and creates a new one. This means the methane has no memory of being crude oil or if it started out the game as sour gas or even started as natural gas. While I would like to know how many can actually make natural gas this way, I don't want to spend the CPU time to keep track of what would be needed to keep track of the data required to figure out when to unlock the achievement. I like the simple and fast approach to elements. It would have to recognize it is intentional and not some oil randomly dropping into magma due to world generation or just mining stuff out. I mean maybe the sour gas -> methane transition but that`s just half of the process and you could get sour gas randomly or maybe even they could add a geyser emitting that. I mean the entire chain like: crude oil->petroleum->sour gas->methane->natural gas. It would have to be the same say 1 kg going through the entire chain to proof that the player have set up the entire chain correctly. However at any given point, all the game knows is the current element or when converting, it knows the new and old, but only during the conversion, not 1 ms before or 1 ms later. Maybe it would be a doable achievement to have all the mentioned conversions happen within 60 seconds and that happening for 5 minutes in a row. That would indicate that the player has set up a continuous conversion and it can be automatically detected without adding memory to elements. The only conversion needed for "good enough" proof is a certain amount of methane condensing in a certain timeframe. Sure, it'd mean that it could be cheated by just liquifying a whole lot of natgas from geysers and then slowly heating bits of it over time, but if you've gone that far, you might as well have done the real thing anyway. Achievements shouldn't be taken that seriously.
