Brago-sama
So I have recently been trying this character out and while I find him interesting I'm struggling a little on feeding my teammates Usually my strategy with any character in pubs is rush 40 berry bushes 80 rot (lightbulbs) along with a few other resources (matts for 12 drying racks, 4 crockpots, at least one fridge, one chest, alchemy machine, fire pit) and then before winter, cull a few beefs for around 40 meat. During winter I like to pull up at least 10 bunny huts from underground to top it off My problem is that bunnymen dislike wortox. I've recently tried spiders but I find even 5 spider dens a bit underwhelming. I'm not saying they're bad, just that I was expecting a tad more. What food sources do you guys go for online as wortox. I'm blanking here Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/106824-wortox-public-servers-strategys/ Share on other sites
CarlZalph
I find myself going on hunts for the meat to make meaty stews more as Wortox in the early game. After that I keep to souls mainly. The sanity decreases is just more fuel to the stacks. Majestix
On Pubs Wortox is not really a feeder, but rather a healer. It is still possible, however, to build bunnymen farms. The best way to do that is to destroy the huts one by one during the day, and kill each bunny that comes out separately. The fact that the bunnies instantly aggro on you helps cleaning out entire bunny villages fairly quickly. If you still have lots of huts left to destroy by dusk, retreat and wait for the next day, do not try doing this with 5 bunnies hopping around in the vicinity. Unlike with other characters, I have not found a reliable way to separate the bunnies from each other and taking them out one by one when there is a herd of them. Similarly, build the huts one by one during the day, and kill the bunnymen that come out straight away. After that initial round of killing, though, your team mates will have to do the slaughtering. Similarly, you can build pig farms as above, but during dusk and night. I find pigs a bit more annoying, because sometimes they do not get stunlocked (I have not figured out what this depends on), and then they can be a pain to kite. As with bunnies, once you have built the farm, you have to leave the harvesting to the others. If you enjoy making noobs on pubs happy, it can be good fun to do an early ruins rush with Wortox and bring thulecite suits and crowns up for the others; I doubt that it is a sensible use of resources, but you will have a fan club. Of course even if you don't waste the thulecite in this way, lots of wires for a large gold supply will also make people happy. Wortox is a good character for ruins rushes, because you can sustain yourself down there with souls from monkeys, slurpers, and depth worms, so no need to prepare lots of food; and his jumping often allows you to find the ruins more quickly. And unlike WX, you will actually emerge with all those gears intact, rather than in your stomach Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/106824-wortox-public-servers-strategys/#findComment-1201600 Share on other sites
Viktor234
For early game: Keep killing Catcoons as Wortox, they grant 1x Meat, 1x Soul and with a chance of 33% a Cat Tail which can be used for a really useful weapon. A good food source for Wortox is actually souls and if you're looking for a nice soul farming station, here are some examples for you: Butterflies + Easy to kill (1 Soul per hit) + You can also use a Bug Net to collect the Butterflies & use them as souls later on (needs to be fed every 2 days) - Doesn't spawn during winter - It might take the whole day to collect enough souls using this method Spiders + Grants you silk which can be used for a Top Hat to cure your insanity - Needs to be built away from base, or else they might invade you during dusk and night - Can't be walled off, spiders attack walls Bee Boxes + A almost free soul source during dusk and night if you have an Ice Flingomatic nearby: Turn the Ice Flingo on and burn the Bee Box during dusk or night The Ice Flingo will extinguish the Bee Box and nearby flowers while also freezing most of the flying bees Kill the frozen bees, they'll be stunlocked if you attack them and other bees won't be able to fight back because they're frozen + Works even during winter (they'll exit if the Bee Box starts burning) + You can also use a Bug Net to collect the Bees & use them as souls later on (needs to be fed every 2 days) + Can be walled off (they won't fly across walls if there's a 2nd way which doesn't involve flying across a wall) - They become aggressive during spring - Spawns way too many useless stingers Big Tentacle + Spawns Baby Tentacles when hit and each tentacle has 20 health, deals only 5 damage and grants 1 soul on death + Using a Spear or Tentacle Spike allows you to kill every Baby Tentacle with a single hit, using a Tail o' Three Cats allows you to outrange Baby Tentacles and to farm souls without taking any damage at all! + Killing the Big Tentacle may grant you Tentacle Spikes or Tentacle Spots and a Wormhole which can be used for ~8 minutes + If you do it carefully, you won't need any armor to farm souls (use your souls to restore health after being hit) + Baby Tentacles don't attack Killer Bees while Killer Bees kill Baby Tentacles quickly - Farming souls this way could drain your sanity quickly Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/106824-wortox-public-servers-strategys/#findComment-1201604 Share on other sites

Brago-sama
I think my problem is that I have to find a new way to play with him and stop using my same old strat On my recent play session all i did was eat souls and poop out nightmare fuel. It's ironic, he technically needs twice the amount of food yet I never touch the fridge, so that's nice. This time I went for 80 bushes (complete overkill I know but I always wanted to try it just once) I completely underestimated my spider dens. The souls they gave me kept me fed and my teammates enjoyed the rest. I'll have to try out different tactics and experiment but I like the spider dens a lot. On worlds with juicy berry bushes tho I'll try out @Majestix idea of pig houses. They're easy enough to kite and unlike the bunnies won't all auto aggro if one sees me. Plus the spider dens supply me with monster meat for were pigs Thanks for the ideas\help everyone Edit: Also you are right, wortox is more of a healer then a feeder, but on the ps4, I swear no one but me knows how to feed people. I've seen a handful of people who know what to do, which is fine actually. I love helping people Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/106824-wortox-public-servers-strategys/#findComment-1201615 Share on other sites
Majestix
Wortox is ok for your usual "first 20 day pub madness", but he really shines in other situations. For example fighting the BQ the legit way (without mobs/tentacles/catapults/walls/other cheese) is a blast with Wortox. You can always kill a few grumble bees if you need more souls, and you can constantly heal the rest of the team, which is actually necessary since you cannot avoid taking damage against the BQ. Or: often he can reach the atrium without going through tentacles, and he can always just jump through the whole maze, completely ignoring the clock works and the (in)sanity barriers, and if you precraft a lazy deserter, then you can teleport the whole rest of the team in. I have even had a worldgen once, where you could only see the very edge of the atrium from the ruins "mainland", and Wortox could jump in, but lazy explorers could not. Well, if he wants to feed others, then Webber (Gathers Spider Dens & Monster Meat easier than anyone else), Wendy (Gets 100% of the Monster Meat from killing Spiders), Wickerbottom (Bushes & Farms always have fruits) or Willow (Harvests Bee Boxes daily without taking damage, if done the right way) would be way better characters. Wortox is not only a healer but also someone who can deal with bosses or rush the ruins, thanks to his early game magic abilities. Brago-sama
While I do agree all characters have certain niches they excel in, I prefer bending a character to fit my playstyle. If I really wanted to feed everyone I would go for wicker, but that's just too easy. I have done ruins runs before but tbh the only thing worth going down there before winter are the magiluminescence, wires, and gears. I feel that's just a waste of the 8ish days spent down there since there's almost always enough gears uptop unless you have crap world gen and gold is plenty abundant above too, almost never had a problem unless I have 5 dead rocks sitting at base doing nothing. Edit: ruins are still valuable and I do go there, but the first twenty days have more value then whatevers down there. As for boss rush, dragonfly is worth it if you do it fast enough Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/106824-wortox-public-servers-strategys/#findComment-1201670 Share on other sites

I disagree. There is exactly one thing worth going on an early ruins rush for: the star caller staff. Everything else is bonus. Being able to fight Klaus with a star, rather than him trampling over 10 fire places is worth the rush alone. When I join a pub, I only decide if I will rush the ruins once I find a totally normal tree, or get lucky and naturally spawn a tree guard. Without living logs, I agree with you that there is nothing sufficiently appealing down there for the first autumn.
