[WiP] Portuguese-BR Translation

[uPDATE: 05/08/14] Portuguese-BR Translation was available for download on the Steam Workshop. A group of hatemongers decided to report it to Valve for numerous bogus reasons and it got removed. I wasn't able to reach Valve (they don't reply my e-mails) and sincerely I've given up, not going to make an effort for a community that does this kind of thing. Sorry guys.

As requested, this thread is for the current translation by yours truly.

The .PO file is a complete version for the latest version of the base game. This is a localization project, therefore, many instances of this version will include references aimed at Brazilian players (there won't be any bad words as it's rated for all ages).
I'd recommend a plain portuguese (european) version to be made by someone else.

Just so you understand what I mean by that: Certain names, objects or quotes, for example, will be funnier for Brazilians.

March 4th Update: WX-78 supported.
March 9th Update: Willow 90% complete and Wolfgang 70% complete Wickerbottom 10% complete.
March 10th Update: Willow and Wolfgang complete; generic strings (includes most of Wilson's) 70%.
March 13th Update: Rain update not included in latest download. In-game same-string usage for more than one instance no longer an issue in certain cases (Shared character speech still a problem; i.e WX-78 uncapitalized speech due to use of generic strings as well as Wolfgang, the latter is also sharing dialog with Willow).
March 14th Update: Translation complete including Rain Update, except for Wickerbottom (However, the downloadable file still does not include Rain).
March 17th Update: Translation is 90% complete. File now includes Rain Update.

July 16th Update: "Strange New Powers" translation currently at 90% and a slight
delay is expected due to busy schedule this month.
July 27th Update: "Hungry For Your Hunger" translation currently at 86% it's overridden the progress of Strange New Powers. Expect a VLOG (in portuguese) explaining the ocurred, meanwhile I ask you to be patient as you wait until the newest release.

One-year-later Update (07/28/14): The mod has been banned from Steam Workshop due to numerous bogus reports in an attempt to hinder my efforts. This has made me unwilling to continue a public translation of Reign of Giants, clearly this will repeat itself in the future and I've grown tired of such haters.

Atualização de um ano: Infelizmente meu mod foi banido pela Valve devido a um perseguição pessoal criada num grupo de Facebook. Isso acarretou em diversas denuncias falsas que forçaram a remoção indevida da minha tradução. Eu entrei em contato com a Valve e depois de mais de 1 semana, eles não responderam meus e-mails. Sinceramente eu estou cansado de tentar provar que não fiz nada errado para pessoas que chegaram recentemente na comunidade do Don't Starve e não conhecem meu trabalho de mais de 1 ano. Peços desculpas se você foi prejudicado. A tradução do jogo base não vai estar mais disponível na oficina e a tradução do Reign of Giants estará disponível apenas para amigos próximos e aqueles que ajudaram na sua realização.

 

 

CURRENT ISSUES:

• [*]Belissa Plumilla font does not support ^ or ~ which can be a problem for words like Não (No) and Configurações (Setup).
  [*]Portuguese, as well as all latin-based languages are comprised of long words and phrases (and let's not even get into German ). In some instances the wording of certain buttons and frames might extend to the sides (i.e. the tools construction bar) and become unreadable. OBS: Found a way to circumvent this, but it's not the ideal thing.
  [*]In the options menu I can't seem to find the strings for FX, Music and Ambient so I can translate them.

[MENTION=569]Salsa[/MENTION]Regarding the main font, yes is has some limitations since it does not provide all letters in the ASCII/western code page :(I created a mod called Alternative Fonts which swaps the artistic font with the opensans one to show the missing letters for now. It does not look as nice but at least it reads properly.Also, on the long words issue, yes, the devs will need to address that.... should easier now that they have a few translations to work with. :)There is a PT-PT translation done but with the forum changes it has gotten lost in the shuffle :SAnd it needs to be upgraded to the Winter UpdateI believe this would be the appropriate line you would use in language.lua to load your po file.LanguageTranslator:LoadPOFile("data\\scripts\\languages\\portuguese-br.po", "pt-br")and the european should use this to not conflict...LanguageTranslator:LoadPOFile("data\\scripts\\languages\\portuguese-pt.po", "pt-pt")

Regarding the alternative fonts mod: It sounds great, but as you said it takes away some of the stylishness. So, what I have done is to remove any accentuation of ~ and ^. Thus, it's still readable and will not affect gameplay. Meanwhile, all said instances are tagged as "Fuzzy" (tradução incerta), this way it'll be easier to correct them once the font issue is properly addressed.

I believe this would be the appropriate line you would use in language.lua to load your po file.

eu estou tentando fazer um tradução nem que seja só para mim mesmo, já procurei alguém para já ajudar a fazer e ninguém de dispôs a ajudar, terminei o menu todo estou seguindo a ordem do arquivo (.po) embora não esteja na ordem do string.lua algumas traduções como a descrição dos personagens o jogo não esta carregando, espero que resolvam mesmo isso ser sair alguma antes de eu terminar a minha por favor coloque para download o arquivo (.po)

Bem provável, Rodrigo. Eu esperei existir uma compatibilidade melhor entre os arquivos .po e o .lua antes de fazer qualquer coisa. Eu sou tradutor profissional e gosto muito do jogo. Não quero desmerecer as tentativas de ninguém e muito menos impedir que outros façam o mesmo trabalho, mas raramente, como já foi mencionado, alguém aparece para ajudar e/ou decide ir até o fim (além de manter o trabalho atualizado).

I worked with Bigfoot yesterday to iron out why the game was not loading the strings with escape characters correctly. Also, I think he is adding language translator comments to the pot file so it is easier to tell what a phrase goes to in POedit.Lol, google is translating one of the words as "Honeymoon"? Not sure what that means in this context. An alternative program to POedit perhaps?

Eu trabalhei com o Bigfoot ontem a ferro para fora porque o jogo não estava carregando as cordas com caracteres de escape corretamente. Além disso, eu acho que ele está adicionando comentários tradutor de linguagem para o arquivo pote de modo que é mais fácil dizer o que a frase vai no poEdit. Lol, google está traduzindo uma das palavras como "Honeymoon"? Não sei o que isso significa neste contexto. Um programa alternativo para PoEdit talvez?

hehehehehe Moon is Lua in portuguese. But darn... honeymoon? That's a bit of a stretch, LOL.Anyways, I haven't bumped into that problem yet. Maybe I've figured out a way around it myself and I hadn't noticed. Either way, the base file I'm using is quite simple to understand (in terms of what I shouldn't mess around with).By the way, I'll see if I can post a test run tomorrow on my channel.

They tweaked the phrases for the tents.But the main thing is if you import the changes you should now see the program ids as translator notes, i.e. STRINGS.CHARACTER.GENERIC.DESCRIBE.TENT

What did they do to the tent phrases? I mean I didn't even know there was an actual difference between each one. I haven't noticed any changes though. Maybe I'm missing something I should do between updates.

I'm using Poedit. How do I keep the strings.pot file updated with my .po file?

[MENTION=569]Salsa[/MENTION]Lol, I figured you knew....sorry :DCatalog->Update from POT file...Can't seem to find the change in the text phrasing now, I may have compared the latest strings file to too old.The latest pot file will always be here.......\Steam\steamapps\common\dont_starve\data\scripts\languagesIt got updated for me today. You may need to restart Steam to get it to update the game.

I just updated the file and it got me 100 new entries and 6 ones were filed as obsolete. Thanks for the heads up, now my job which was half finished is just a bit closer to back at square one though :PEdit: I just noticed there's a tooltip for the golden versions of certain tools.

Hmm, hard for me to say as they have pushed down a few silent updates since the Winter Update dropped.My reference to the tent item is based on the differences I am seeing in the strings.lua file. Looks like someone tweaked that file *after* the strings.pot file got generated. So more more changes to come I guess!

I don't mind changes, I just don't think I'll be able to keep up with them so often after I produce the first file. I hope people are patient enough to wait maybe a couple of days whenever that happens, hehe :PEdit: I'm having so much fun doing the research and translation for this. xD

[MENTION=569]Salsa[/MENTION],Actually, it is a "template" so others can make speech mods with even more speech per character than what is available by making a new po file from strings.pot file. It is not currently po based though....but I have that on my list of things to do. ~580 more lines not including additional pigman names, tombstone epitaphs and pigman speech

More than just coming across this issue, this is more of a request. I'm pretty sure it happens with other languages too, so it will help everyone.The verb Light is different than the noun Light. So when I hover the items section it should read Luzes: "Lights", or maybe Iluminação: Illumination. Which is the noun instance.When I try to light a tree or anything else on fire, the game uses the same string. So instead of being Acender/Tacar Fogo/Queimar: "Light up/Set on Fire/Burn" it just shows "Luzes" for both situations. Which are totally different.My request is for the developers to separate those two situations into two different strings. Of course, this won't be a priority but it's definately something to consider for future reference.
