Help me with my base

Recommended Posts

Can you advise what can be done with my base? I have a huge energy problem. I do not want to use exploits.
I tried to cool the volcano with the help of a turbine, but it devours a huge amount of energy. The volcano melted steel mahanizm. What have I done wrong ?

It is basically impossible to run a steam turbine without exploits and successfully produce energy.  Depending on what you call an exploit, of course.

One thing you should do when trying to harness a volcano is have a thermal shut off so you don't put in too much heat.  You can use a door like below:

When the door is closed, heat will go from the lava to the top chamber.  When it is open, it is not.  Then you can put a thermal sensor in and stop the system from overheating.  If you feel like that is an exploit (which I could kind of understand from a realism perspective), you can make the door vertical instead, which can be like two thermal conductors making contact to transfer heat.

has anyone watched the save? what's wrong ? In particular-why the turbine does not work correctly ? As far as I understand it has to work from a big heat. At the moment, the volcano is gradually heating oil. The turbine can not cool this temperature and, moreover, requires a huge amount of energy. Why? Help to understand, I'm stuck in the game :(

Bear in mind that when looking at someone else's save you have to make assumptions and can make mistakes.

You are trying to cool the volcano with an aquatuner running crude oil through it, crude oil has much lower heat capacity than water so it's costing you almost 2.5 times as much energy to get the same amount of cooling. Unfortunately your cooling pool is now well over the boiling point of water so you are in trouble.

You are not using an oil refinery to generate petroleum, considering the amount of crude oil you have access to this could be a viable energy source. You are not protecting your solar panels with bunker doors so they are getting destroyed by meteors and regolith, you do not have enough steel to harness space you should abandon that project. You have several thousand KG of natural gas, that is a lot of power right there so I'm not sure where this power issue is.

Many thanks for the help and advice! Now at least I have more understanding. I didn’t even know what the problem was and was disappointed.

By the way. I prudently made a separate save game before starting to explore the volcano. I suspected that I would make mistakes :) So, that now, having armed myself with tips, I can do better.

Somewhere here on the forum they wrote that thermoplates should not be in contact with insulated walls. Someone wrote that in this case the heat starts to go off into the insulated wall, i.e. the system will lose heat in vain. It's true ?
