radiation upgrade

looking forward to ~

1)generator : nuclear power plant

2)material : uranium stuff~(we can get this by lunching rockets)

3)new kind of overview for the radiation stats(black to red) which will show colours just like our temperature overview 

4)duplicant are more likely to suffer from cancer and even death if they expose themselves into radiation 

5)more new powerful rocket that use powerful stuff that gives off radiation so we no longer need to spend much of our crude oil...or a ion thrusters can do the trick.

6)new alien plants that sucks up radiation ,in return it may give out some heat

7)tiles that is capable of blocking radiation

8)some mechinary are going to generate some radiation where we need to take care of~

9)your creativity

There actually is radium in the game files (and also in the codex). Might be planned as some sort of power source in the future. Also has a "light source" tag iirc but those don`t do anything, for now at least.

Keeping my fingers crossed that it will get added at some point.

I have seen suggestions like this before.

Klei did say they have a surprise in store for the official release, but I hope it’s not something like this. A nuclear upgrade would be too large and would be filled with too many bugs (love you Klei!).

When they add nuclear / radium, they should definitely put it through testing (ie, a test release).

Radiation won't add any new mechanics to the game, it would be just the same, but with different name. "same as coal/oil, but more powerful". Where's the fun in that? What we need is "more powerful, but harder to set up", like the steam turbine.

As for "radiation as a hazard", how exactly would it be different from the temperature? Temperature is quite good at making some regions hard to access. Excessive heat will give dupes a stroke, excessive cold will cause hypothermia. In extreme cases this can lead to injury and death. Quite lethal.

I think we will get at least 2-3 more upgrades before release. They mentioned QoL and balancing so possibly we will get a balance upgrade after QoL mk2. Still a lot of time to add some new stuff.

IMO a higher tier generator needs to be harder to maintain and require a more complicated setup. Lets see:
manual gen - no setup needed, just connect and it works
coal gen - minimal setup, needs coal supply, minimal amounts of CO2
nat gas gen - simple setup, requires gas filtering, needs automation to prevent overproduction, needs CO2 management
petrol gen - medicore setup, needs some waste management, requires cooling for 100% uptime, CO2 amounts might be problematic
solar gen - complicated setup, needs space access and a working bunker door system as well as auto miners or arilock crushers to get rid of regolith
steam turbine - hard/borderline impossible without exploits, needs a stabile heat source and a way to condense steam on the top side

If we were to add another generator type we need to put it somewhere between the complication level of petrol and solar generators. It needs to be something that either produces more waste and heat than the petrol gen or has some other requirements that are hard to fullfill other than it requiring an exotic fuel type.

New metal - Lead

Lead is a new metal with its own ore. It blocks radiation and is required to make the new gen, acts as a refined metal (Not steel or space industry niobidium/thermium) and also melts at 328°C. Seems to be good enough as a new metal

Well radium in game described as light source, so i guess it could be alternative light source for solar panels, so one can run solar panels being underground, so as you predicting it would be slightly easier to setup it then regular solar panels setup on surface. But i'd say that regular lava will emit more light for solar panels then decaying radium...

I'd rather prefer plutonium-238 to boil water for steam turbine.

Instead of making just a generator, maybe make a reactor that you can pump water into in order to produce a lot of really, really hot (e.g.1.2k Celcius) steam? That would at least open up turbine towers as an option instead of just being another coal generator, and depending on how it is implemented you might be able to use the heat it produces for other things.
