Madbro
Hello guys! (•ω•)/ The disease system is way too boring. I have mentioned aboit this many times: ADD MORE DISEASES, or a new type of germ. Today I am dare to suggest one new disease: The Hatch Flu. And If you want to ask me am I on nutz, the answer is YES. Concept: Swine Flu. Spoiler https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Influenza_A_virus_subtype_H1N1 ...... (•ω•) What the... Swine? 1. Disease Spread Mechanisms Spoiler Please note that: Spoiler It is a Flu, not ordinery slimelungs. It can spread faster than you think. Every 600 cycles this germ will be on a random Hatch or Sage Hatch and starts the outbreak. Disease spread involving Hatches Spoiler A infected Hatch also infects nearby Hatch, in radius of 2, except Stone Hatch and Smooth Hatch that has immunity on the disease. Infected Hatch will be killed by the disease within 5 cycles. Not just the meat drops are also infected, the eggs thay laid also carries the disease (except Stone Hatch eggs) - however death countdown startes after the egg is hatched. Infected hatch has a lower productivity - they gain a debuff of “sickness” that gradually decrease on productivity by 20%. The disease also spreads by Hatch diets. P.S. infected Hatches also leaves some germs on the ground that they have walked or anthing on the ground they have touched. P.S. To ensure Hatch species won’t gone extict, 5% of Hatch and Sage Hatch will also gain immunity effect. Disease spread involving Duplicants Spoiler Here are the ways that duplicants catch Hatch Flu. 1. Contact with any infected Hatches, including grooming, driect combat and delivering them without any Exosuit or Hazmat Suit protection. 2. The meat infected with the Flu rotten and becomes rot or polluted dirt, releasing dangerous polluted oxygen into the air carrying the disease and a duplicant breathed the infected gas in. 3. Eat any food infected by the Flu, or eat with dirty hands. Dirty food also spreads the disease in food containers. 4. Duplicant caught Flu and sneezes into the air, another duplicant breathed the sneezed air in. 5. Walking or touching any infected tiles or items. Survival conditions for Hatch Flu germs Spoiler 1. Grows in: • Polluted Oxygen • Polluted Water • Water • Polluted dirt • Slime • Algae • Hatch body (5% faster) • Sage Hatch body (20% faster) • Edibles and cooking ingredients Growth rate: +20% cycle 2. Dies faster in: • Immersed in or next to chlorine gas (-30% cycle) • On bleach stones (-20% cycle) • Non-breathable gas (-8% cycle, can’t stack with chlorine effects) 3. Livable temperature range: • -5°C to 75°C 2. Symptoms on Duplicants Spoiler • Debuff on all attributes (-5) • Sneezing (like slimelung does) • Death countdown (15 cycles) • Throwing up randomly (around every 0.5~2 cycles) and causing a great dirty mess behind (except when the duplicant is inside Pharma Chamber) 3. Solutions Spoiler • Once a duplicant is sick because of Flu infection, bring it to a Pharma Chamber immediately before they spread the disease further. • Purge all infected Hatches and decompost their meat drops in composts immediately. Make sure the dupes responsible for that wears Hazmat Suits. • Destroy all infected Hatch egg. • Sterilize all dirty tiles and buildings. • Clean the dirty objects at Ore Scrubbers to ensure safety. • Washing station at ranching zones and other exits. New items: Hazmat Suit (this suit is 100% germ-free) PLEASE SUPPORT MY MAD IDEAS! (•ω•) (and as usual, comments please)
Madbro
Notes 1: Hazmat suits may not be as usful as atmo suits, however it is germ-resistant. Forged using 100g bleach stone and 5kg plastic plus 2 reed fibres.
LeftyRighty
ok, as a creative concept it's nice... but as a gameplay mechanic, we just switch to keeping hatches in a chlorine environment and ignore it...
TurtleKitty
Having a germ spawn every 600 cycles is not a good mechanic for this game, as germs do not function like recurring mobs. Perhaps having the germ lay within a risky but rewarding distant asteroid? If only Hatches and Sage Hatches can be infected, then the flu should be specialized to spreading and thriving in their habitats. It wouldn't be as versatile in temperature as your description. It would likely spread faster on critters and objects but barely along liquid and gasses. Why a hazmat suit? Why not the already implemented exosuit or an upgrade to a Medical Exosuit? The flu would not likely become airborne so quickly, nor would it speed up decomposition of meat to rot. It would simply be infected meat. Any disease has a weakness, a countermeasure. Balm Lily should be capable of countering Hatch Flu in some measure. It would also need a research section and the eventuality of a cure. There would need to not only be an immunity mechanic but a resistance mechanic and vulnerability mechanic as well to ensure balance. Adding this to hatches and then to the dupes could be tricky. Mostly a Hatch Flu would mean chlorine spam or avoiding use of Hatches.
