langstraad
I have been replaying the same seed over and over to get better cycle times to a certain goal. When I begin I plow research to jet packs as quickly as possible. This last game I made it in 57 cycles (no starship stuff but everything else). I am sure with the right dupes selected for research it can be done faster. Then there is minimum cycles to the first plastic manufactured. In my current game it is looking like approximately 150 cycles. First time with the space update it took 750 cycles to the first steel blast door. Next game was 450 cycles. Third game I think I could have made it by 350 cycles. This fourth game I am on I might have the first blast door in place by cycle 250 or even earlier. Play a seed with defined settings.and try to keep your suicidal dupes from dying before cycle xxxx. How many cycles before one of the b******s walls himself in? Has anyone tried this? Neotuck
I'm more of a take things slow and easy when it come to research. There is no rush when it comes to steal production, taking it slow has it's advantage as I'll always have plenty of egg shells for lime when I'm ready for it
langstraad
There are a few things that need to be researched as fast as possible, The Farm Tile, Coal Generator, and some others. I setup a carbon dioxide catch room early on for mushrooms. The Coal Generator helps. The Electric Grill dramatically accelerates calorie production. I rush for Insulating Tiles as fast as possible. Then my base is a cocoon of comfortable temperatures from the start. The ranching thing is not working for me. I tried Hatches and they were competing for food with my dupes. Pacu eat Algae which I have other uses for...
Xadhoom
in my last colony, i set out to get 16 dupes and try to get rockets as soon as possible while setting up all systems as well. i ended up having to wait for dupes to become astronauts while i had a ready rocket at around cycle 240. i was lucky and had fullerene and isoresin on the nearest asteroids so i was fast to get insulation and super coolant, with that i managed to get a LOX and LH going early so by cycle 330 or so i got my first hydrogen rocket of. I always feed my stone hatches igneous rock You should never run out of igneous rock on the map
Soulwind
Hey tuck, why igneous? I usually feed sedimentary. I do most of my out base building with igneous.

Because there is a LOT in the map, it's the most common solid element found. You can build everything with it and still have enough left over to feed hatches. I only use sedimentry rock for normal hatches to encourage them to lay stone eggs. On my current game I have 3 hatch stables. Two of them are full of stone hatches feed igneous. And one has a mix of sage and smooth hatches that I feed dirt and ore Note that the sages and smooth hatches are temporary, I plan to switch to all stone hatches once my metal refinaries are up and running
langstraad
I will have to take another look at the feeder. I could select 'Hatch' as a food type but I could not figure out how to select the food itself. Screenshot anyone?

Neotuck
Here's a pic of my base currently on cycle 188 On the feeder you have to click on the little black arrow next to the critter name to see the selection of food items available, as you can see I have dirt selected
