Rocket return scanner not entirely useless

Recommended Posts

In my water clock thread (link below) it was discussed that in the current state of the game the scanner array signal for the rocket ready to land doesn't give enough time for the doors to open so a better method was to use a multicycle clock so we know in advance when there will be no meteor showers and we can therefore calculate backward to when you should launch the rocket to make sure the doors are always open when the rocket lands.

That doesn't mean the scanner array signal for detecting the landing is entire useless as another big problem is that the gantry automation goes negative once the rocket is launched, so you have to manually make sure the gantry is subtracted when the rocket returns but we can actually use the scanner array signal for that. Not to retract it but to stay retracted until about 100s after the scanner array signal that the rocket is returning. Thereby fully automating the gantry as well.

As I currently do the gantries manually and just leave the space-doors open until the rocket returns, I  cannot use this, but somebody else might.

If you keep the doors open you can use the scanner to close them once the rocket is back. Connect to the command module port so that it auto opens when the rocket is ready to start. I used a system with a logic bit for that before. Now i`m just doing it manually.
