yoakenashi
Life is not infinite. We see this in the critters we coexists with, nothing lives forever. I suggest duplicant lifespans. There are numerous things that can be built upon this than simple simply saying duplicants live 1000 cycles. 1) Duplicants may teach future generations what they know, a) Two new buildings: a chalkboard and desks. Similar to how a exosuit dock and checkpoint work, a chalkboard acts as checkpoint and attached to it is a number of desks. This would allow duplicants to teach duplicants what they know. While they share that knowledge it is actually transferred from the older duplicant to the younger duplicants. The experience learned by the teacher is distributed to the students. b) A new job of teacher. Allowing a duplicant to transfer their knowledge to other duplicants. Once learned, they can use the chalkboard and teach students that use the desks. Only student studying in that subject (ie trait, such as cooking) can attend class. 2) Make medicine to extend duplicant lifespans. A life expentency vitamin that when consumed increases lifespan by 5% or more. A reducing effect could be implemented so that a duplicant can or cannot live forever. A complex recipe (or two) for the apothecary. 3) Consumables impact life expectancy. a) If a duplicant consumes high quality food, then they live longer lives (not unlike eating healthy in the real world). b) A new food that increases life expectancy but does not fulfill as many calories. Eating this healthy and other healthy foods extends life, but eating those fatty and filling foods provides more calories. DraconicSiege
Each cycle is 600 seconds long. That means that a duplicant would live about 6.9 days real-time. So you would have to play on one save for 166.67 hours to actually see a dupe dying of old age. Its an interesting mechanic, but most people wouldn't even see the effects of it. Also some people, myself included, get rather attached to specific dupes. I don't think I would like to see them die beyond my control like this. Especially since dupes were really, really fragile to begin with. Many many moons ago, 2000-Before-Cycle, I had suggested that I would love to have coffins in the game. I was cursed and the idea was buried. As you are talking here about aging, I have the idea that a grave ceremony is held as beloved Gossmann III junior has left us. Similar to the recent post by forum users to have a cinema, popcorn and cola production (anyone remember the lime coca cola?) this grave coffin ceremony, with organ music and attending dupe friens, would add mood and more emotional bindings to the dupes and the life on the asteroid... Or whatever its called we play on or play in. Even some Star Trek movie or episodes hat coffins launched in to space Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/97489-death/#findComment-1104251 Share on other sites
