Reflection seismology

It would be beneficial to have a Research called 'Reflection Seismology'. So the Player can 'see' more of the map even thoe he didnt explore it with a Dupe.

There are 3 Stages, i.e.

Seismology  I - 1/3 of asteroids inner layers uncovered

Seismology II -  2/3 of asteroids inner layers uncovered

Seismology III -  All inner layers of the Asteroid uncovered

 

Lets say the rooms with the Genelockdoors, Neural vacillator and Anti Entropy Thermo-Nullifier won't be uncovered.

You should be able to see the Biomes and everything in them, like you would do in the debugmode, except for the rooms mentioned above. Maybe you have to put a 'Seismic Wave Generator' somewhere, best would be Center of your base, and according to your Research it will uncover the area around itself in circle-ish shape. Maybe Limit the number of SWG's, if implemented as a object, to 1.

 

Anyway something that reveals the surroundings, i.e. the Dupegate as the center, to make the game a bit less frustrating and more fun.

For those who do not wish to have such an option, why not make the Seismology Research deactivatable in the custom game?

 

I thought an option like  Seismology would prove to be a good addition to the game.

Great idea! I made a similar suggestion about the satellite scanning of the map.
As I see the idea the 'Seismic Wave Generator'  should be placed somewhere near the scanned area and have a conic view-field.
The research increases range, accuracy and speed of analysis.
Grade I - basic range, reveals only gases, liquids and cavities. 2-3 cycles to get the results.
Grade 2 - increased range, reveals geysers (YEEEES!!!). 1-1.5 cycles to get the results.
Grade 3 - A new building. With vast range that reveals all and allows distant geyser activity research.

P.S. What's so wrong about revealing the locked rooms and Thermo-Nullifiers? They are physical objects, right.

In RL there is method to find empty spaces underground, they use it to find large emptiness which usually filled with natural gas above oil. They use sound waves.

This idea could be used to discover all emptiness(tiles filled with gas or vacuum) on map, so knowing which gas in certain tile you can purpose which biome it is  and what could be there - will help a lot without revealing all map.
