Is printing pod dupe generation random?

Is printing pod dupe generation random? Because in my current playthrough I have been picking only ugly criers, and after 6 dupes, I skipped about 20 with a single ugly crier among them.. I am having the worst of luck or is the dupe selected weighted against current ones?

I've wondered about the same thing some time ago.

I don't think it's totally random. At least in the weighing of the skills and trait. E.g good/better skills and traits (like learning or strength) seem to me beeing harder to get than others.

Ugly crier is the arguably best stress response imo. The game balances the dupe stats maybe? So you can't get total uberdupes?

Otherwise you could just save/load the game and check until you get your crier

There was a thread about this.

Stress responses are linked to dupe names. You cant print a name you already have, until you have all names down.

Solutions:

Rename your current dups.

Print out all dupe variants 1 Time.

A lot of rejection later, I am not sure renaming works. At this point I might start killing some dupes to get past this silly restriction. Ironically the stupid joke about a gas chamber might become a reality.
