Too many alerts during food crisis

Recommended Posts

Early game food crises are pretty common, for me at least. The problem is, the never ending cycle of  alert noises from "Food Shortage" and "Starvation".

The "Starvation" tone is the worst one. The behavior I've observed it this; A dupe will pass below 1000 calories, and drop what he's doing to get food, even outside his appointed mealtime. If you have food available you'll still get the alert, so it isn't an actual starvation alarm, but an "Unscheduled Break" alarm.

These tones are driving me quite mad. (inb4 git gud scrub) All I'm requesting is to chill out on these alarms a bit. "Starvation" doesn't need a tone if there's food available for that dupe. It's causing me enough stress that I'm about ready to go beat up my refrigerator:mad-new: Sorry to complain aloud.

It`s the "duplicant in danger" sound. It basically means he is could die if you don`t help him. Usually happens when he`s suffocating or gets entombed. Food shortage is a different alert. Happens if you have less food supplies than dupes eat per cycle. More of a colony crisis info.

They should be separate alerts beacuase starvation might be caused by different scenarios than foold shortage. For example a dupe getting stuck and being unable to reach food or the food being unperimtted to him (both have own popups as well). Starvation shouldn`t occur unless a dupe hasn`t eaten for like 2 cycles straight. Maybe it happens more often since expressive upgrade. Before a hungry dupe would just rush for food as soon as it`s possible now he has to wait for breaks.

Maybe it should be changed so that they take an uscheduled break for food earlier than the starvation alert is triggered to avoid alert overload.

I think the OP means if a dup is starving, and there is reachable food, and the dup assigned itself to that reachable food, then there is no need for the starvation alert to trigger. that starvation alert did manage to trigger me before with all it false alerts. I just got used to it.

and if a dup get stuck, adding an alert that checks if the printer (or later the dup's assigned bed) is unreachable then trigger a stuck/isolation alert, that would be more useful than just waiting for a dup to starve, sometimes I get lucky with the idle alert, other times they just continue working at their isolated zone. and if this gets added, I prefer it doesn't play sound alert. I don't want it there every 2 seconds while digging either.
