Abyssalite Pipe heat transfer

I was scratching my head the other day when I built abyssalite pipes (rocketry preview)

As we all know abyssalite has nearly zero heat exchange with the environment, but, the immobile 1kg packages of 100 °C hydrogen dropped very fast in temperature in a 50 °C Oxygen environment, while contained in ordinary abyssalite pipes. This got me wondering how does heat exchange in pipes work? Either the exchange is directly between the contained element and the surroundings, (which doesn't make sense) or something radically changed with the new rocketry update.

Even pipes inside abyssalite walls dropped in temperature which doesn't ad up at all with my math. Currently I'm starting to question my methods and options available to me.

Has someone experienced a similar issue or knows more on the topic of heat transfers?

Abysallite has a temperature, and a heat capacity.  Which means they can pass heat on to things.  If you want to insulate the contents of a pipe, use insulated abyssalite.

They changed how thermal transfer works, such that it uses the log average of the two materials -- except when dealing with insulated materials, in which case it uses the lowest thermal transfer.

the average? Would make way more sense if they use the product of the square roots if you ask me. I thought lowest transfer was applied to all heat exchanges.

In comparison, my abyssalite walls never change temperature at all. I'm confused.

but do I assume correctly that the interior of the pipe exchanges temperature with the pipe, and the pipe exchanges temperature with the exterior right? I guess I'll have to read up a few patchnotes.
