mr peeps
With the new preview, I just wanted to throw out my opinions about it. I have wanted rockets and space travel for AGES in this game and its finally here. In other words, I'm really happy. But. There is a reason I'm making this. Something I thought would be super cool is to be able to actually go to these planets. I think it would be super cool to be able to make a linking colony that spans multiple asteroids - for instance, you could set up a colony on the bio planet and ship resources into yours, and virtually create a space civilization sort of thing. Whats in place right now is really cool and all, but to be 100% honest, a slight bit disappointing, as rabbit hole things like this are just sorta kinda boring (to me anyway). Thoughts? ImpalerWrG
Are you talking about having separate maps for these places? I don't think that's viable duo to all the screen swapping that would involve. If you mean just setting up some kind of routine extraction convoys, yea that's fine. NGMZero
not using the rabbit holes will most likely mean they have to freeze world while jumping between different worlds. this is unsatisfying to me in a game where you need to constantly worry about your resource rates. Edit: Alternatively they could add limitation like how many numbers of worlds we can visit and how tiny they are, just to keep every thing simulated at once with out extra lags. there will be a lot of mixed feelings about more limitation i guess. What if the other maps would be much smaller? Extraction convoys would also be a massive improvement to me. 7 hours ago, NGMZero said: not using the rabbit holes will most likely mean they have to freeze world while jumping between different worlds. this is unsatisfying to me in a game where you need to constantly worry about your resource rates. I personally, think the alternative is just fine. I dunno. Rabbit holes are just boring to me. babba
A second world would be a great opportunity to run the game on a 2nd cpu core, but probably cause a few gigabytes of additional ram memory usage ( most player systems with Win10 and Oni running consume 8 gb ram currently ) and a ton of unwanted new game crashes and player complaints + binding to much Klei human resources. Also loading a 1st & 2nd cpu core with both game world maps of the same size, having all calculations running on both maps at the same time, would disengage the Intel & Amd turbo boost ( i7, Ryzen as examples ) of the 1st core on most standard air cooled PC`s, effectively downgrading the processing output of the used 1st cpu core as Turbo Boost throttles the speed down due to more than one core load and too high temperature. The rocketry update utilizes a single cpu core as in the past, so far nothing has changed. Graphic cards gtx 1060,70&80 only have a few % to do. Using two cpu cores on modern cpus would be a somewhat reduction, as cpu turbo boost on first cpu core will drop or switch off completely. Only 3,4 or more cores would be a great speed increase, but its too much work, too complicated, too human resource binding and too late. Running a 2nd world would be super tricky for the developers, just hearing about the idea they probably spit coffee on the keyboard. Maybe a 1/16 size map as 2nd world could work, if desired. A smaller map would be good enough for me. Maybe, similar to dst, you could disable other asteroids (like with caves?) and just have the current stuff? And sadly, I must agree, this is a bit far fetched. I never really considered the whole "performance" stuff. babba
Yeah, an 1/16th size scale 2nd map would be cool ! Like lunar shuttle landing or something... I was disappointed when the devs shrunk the main game map to 1/4 in the past, but after messing a lot with the fastest single core turbo boost cpus, boards and pc cooling for this game I did not wonder when the developers performed this map size reduction for the average pc owner. I doubt they will implement a 2nd very small map ( with special resources, enemies, problems, friends, biome or providing great bonuses, but hard for the player to access or enter this 2nd map and for later end game etc.), but we can ask for it, it would be soooo cool ! P.S. They seem to constantly optimize, I used to have the problem that deleting compactors in debug mode always crashed the game, it works with my saves now. Also the game manages to run with 400 dupes, which is great. greggbert
The two map real time implementation of Rimworld is ZERO fun to me. It's ridiculous to play. If you did have a second map, I would prefer to have the game just pause your original map and give a mission timer where you have x cycles to gather as much as you can before they run back to the rocket and go home.
