Transit Tubes/Space

Recommended Posts

When I play Oxygen Not Included, I face a few problems with Transit Tubes and Space in General. Any answers are helpful, and I just need insight. Thanks!

1. How do I put an exit to a Tube?

2. Where should I put my Atmosphere Suit checkpoint?

3. How many tubes should I have?

4. Should I have tubes going to space AND back from space?

5. How should I protect my Solar Panels from Meteor Showers?

6. What kind of things should I put into my Space Base?

7. How do I use Transit Tube Crossings? (I've tried them a few times, they dont work for me.)

8. Where should I put Bunker Doors?

I know this is a lot of questions, but I'm pretty dumbfounded with Space Currently, thanks for taking a read!

1 - Just create an open end. You only need the transit-buildings if you want dupes to ENTER the tubes. Exit ist possible everywhere with an open tube. Either End or T-Junction.

2- Obviously you need to place the checkpoint behind the suitlockers. The other way, they get stuck in front if it, and wont reach the suits at all.

3. Depends... What can you support? Water, food, oxygen... If you have surplus, print the next dupe. If not, delay.

4. Try, and decide yourself. Tubes wont vent gases it i´m not mistaken. So nothing can go wrong, as long as you seal the border properly. But remember, tubes melt pretty fast. hit by an meteoroid... gone you are.

5 Bunker doors. Open to let the sun shine, close when it rains... Thats what the scanners are for.

6. What you like. Its an open world game. You dont have to, but you can.

7. build one line normal, and the other as crossing. Not both.

8 above everything, where you need heavy protection. Or to seal caverns with very high pressure...

Yes the space addon had heavy impact. and i guarantee, you will be frustrated with solar panels and bunker doors a lot, until you figured out, how to set them up right.

3. Transit Tubes, not Dupes. 5. I do have scanners, quite a lot of them. Good System and Dishes. 8. I thought it was just for space?

3. sorry my misread ^^ You just need one tube to get as many dupes to where you want them to go. They line up just good. But maybe you want to build more tube-stations, because the only have stored energy for 3 or 4 dupes, and the rest will ignore them and go on foot.

Alrighty, thanks for answering my questions! I realize now I only need 1 going to and one coming back from space. 1 last question - How do you like to do oxygen in your base? I have 2 rooms full of electroliyzers with mini gas pumps that lead into a gas filter (filters out hydrogen and vents it and other gases I dont want like carbon dioxide into open space for disposal.) and the normal gas filter output leads to all the vents in the base dispersing oxygen, but it's not working. oxygen isnt being spread where it needs to go and hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and somehow Natural Gas (mind you the natural gas being taken from a geyser and put into 2 generators does not have any vents releasing it, idk how it got  there) are randomly about my base and I find it easier to use sandbox mode and simply use the Brush Tool (Size 3 Oxygen Gas) to put in more oxygen. (Currently 7 Dupes) Would a Screenshot of my System help?

Natgas seems to appear sometimes from small pockets around and gather at some point.

If you want to get rid of carbon dioxide build carbon scrubbers at the bottom. The gas will aways move to the ground.

Why do you use small gas pumps? They only have half the capacity.

And yes building a loooong line with serveral vents wont work. Most of the gas vents to the first 2 ones, and later vents are just decoration... Use more pumps and dedicated pipes for vents.

1. oh, it does? bug or normal?

2. I know that carbon dioxide flows down but the space thing is much easier for me (especially because I play with cheats and just build this base to perfection so I  can git gud)

3. I used them because they can rotate and the room just looks better. didnt know bout the capacity thing

4. so I  should spread out stations making oxygen around my base near different sets of vents and use more than 1 pipe system?

Also just read what you said about bunker doors above my Solar Panels and you're a genius! I use 3 layers of glass to keep meteors out and just replace it but that would  work sooo much better! thank you, honestly! I already have an automation gate set up so when one of the Scanners detect space trash incoming, Duplicant Checkpoints next to the bunker doors leading out lock down, so no dupes get hurt. I would just need to hook them to the automation and power system.. thanks again!

Why are you venting these into space? That's such a waste. You can feed the hydrogen to a hydrogen gen and get power from your hard work. (There are even systems that are self powering. I made one here using water cooling:

if you can't or don't want to do slicksters, you can always make a box, put about 800 g of water on every tile at the bottom, and put vent in the bottom. Because of the 800 g or water it won't flood but won't over pressurize either. It's an exploit, yes, but you might as well use it instead of sandbox mode. what you don't want to do is destroy it completely, because that's destroying mass, and an a system like this in which almost everything can be reused, destroying mass permanently is bad.

also, you don't need one transit tube back. As long as you put a transit tube access on the exit (the one in space) the dupes will use it as both an exit and an entrance. (As long as it's powered, don't forget that)

You should just have one system making Oxygen, with two or more oxygen pipes that spread out like tree roots to all of your base.

feel free to ask as many questions you have! That's what the formula are for! :)

I don't know how to make slicksters, and since when I play I use cheats to learn how everything works before I actually play the game, my dupes don't level up very quickly in jobs. Because of this, Ranching things is completely out of the question..

Since my Power System is using a Nat gas Vent which is currently sustaining everything in the base, its waste products are renewable and I don't see a use for it (Co2) I just pump it into space.

My Water System also uses a Steam Vent and therefore the waste product (Polluted Water) is also renewable and I have no use for it. Polluted Water is a scourge in my worlds, since it makes polluted oxygen and clearing out the outhouses early game ramps up the speed of oxygen consumption, I just don't have a use.

At this point my main concern is as follows:

Where did all my Oxygen run off to? 2 rooms with electrolyzers and somehow the oxygen disappears, I don't get it..
