Single drop Waterlock

Recommended Posts

This is such a simple idea I would guess somebody must have posted about it already but I honestly don't remember that. So maybe this could help somebody? I found it very convenient when I want to repair/refurbish something, such as in this volcano vacuum chamber.

Step 1: build an appropriate step and make a drop of liquid on it. Doesn't matter how big it is, just make sure it won't freeze or evaporate.

Step 2: deconstruct the emptier and build some walls around it

Step 3: deconstruct the way through

Step 4: enjoy the access as long as you need it.

Nice though previously I'd noticed that edge locks eventually quit working. Like at some point a dupe drags that liquid somewhere by moving through it.  But maybe more stair steps was key.

It's usually caused by the duplicant breathing out some CO2 right when he is in the drop. It's not an issue if your duplicants wear exosuits and for safety measure, you may make several such steps - assuming it's just for repairs it has good chance to last long enough

I saw your bug report.  How do you avoid flooding of the sweeper arms?

I'm not sure what are you asking about. I posted two bug reports recently and both are around the volcano. If you mean the design where the sweeper is partially submerged, I have empirically determined that it's not flooded when it sits in 300 kg of water per tile. So I filled the top level to 300 kg per tile. The water level never actually changes since the magma changes to drops as it gets over the edge and directly materializes to solid when it hits the bottom.
