Supraluminal Posted March 16, 2018 Share Posted March 16, 2018 I would love to see the sensors moved out of the main building layer and into the automation layer. Gates and wire already exist there, let's stop cluttering up the main layer with sensors. This would really help address some issues that arise from ONI's quirky physics, too. One particularly irritating example is building a proper two-door mechanical airlock; you can't put an atmo sensor in the same cell as a gas pump, so you end up with this doofy little sensor niche on the side of your 4x4 lock. It then grabs a packet of gas and bleeds it out to the pump area at a rate of 1 microgram per century. With an atmo sensor on top of the pump, you could keep the lock at 4x4, with all cells being directly serviced by the pump. That should provide vacuum in just a few seconds instead of what feels like an eternity. It'd also be really nice to be able to put sensors on top of pumps to more precisely control them based on the actual temp/pressure in their intake cells for all sorts of tasks. As is, you have to allow a pretty significant temperature buffer when pumping fluids to be heated/cooled in order to avoid any unwanted state changes. I'm sure there's plenty of other ways this would help (precise readings from vents comes to mind) but those are a couple of things that annoy me on a fairly regular basis. Have a gas pump that can be set to only pump if the average pressure in its affected area is over/under a certain amount.
