Is there a point to promoting in certain professions now?

Recommended Posts

Certain careers like the researcher, chef, artist, etc. only provide a 2+ boost to their respective skill even when promoting dupes to the higher up positions. Is there any reason for my to promote my sous chef to a chef? What benefit does it provide me?

well, if you have someone with +3 creativity and assign them to be an a junior artist, then they'll create masterpieces - and be able to do so while holding another job position after finishing that first level.

Otherwise, I believe that lvl 20 is the base max for learned skills, so the jobs would bring them up to 26. At least I think this is how it works. The prior example is more useful information though. Finishing the training lets them do that job while holding another job - it just requires some tweaking of their allowed tasks.

Short answer no. Most of your dupes can stay at tier 2-3 depending on how many abyssalite miners or couriers you want. Should have 1-2 trained for mechatronic and electrical engineer. You gain the food/decor requirements based on the highest skill mastered so it you have a mechatronics engineer might as well train him in everything 5 or lower.

Still think they should lower the max to ~10, drop the bonus and raise the max trainable based on mastered skills.Something like +2 to max per tier, lvl6 gets +6 to make it worth it.  Athletics = highest Tier. Already possible to get 9 skill at the start so 10 seems about right. Would need to add in a tier 6 for some stuff but we already have empty ranks as is. Dont even need every tier filled just set it to mastered tier(1-5) * 2 +10 and add 6 for the last tier.

Edit:Example For mining.

Jobless = 10 max Skill. Apprentice(T1) = 12 max Skill. Miner(T3) =16 max Skill. Senior(T6) 26 max Skill. Add in athletics = highest tier and you now have a reason to push for tier 6 jobs.
