Food quality or food diversity?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

The actual meta is to rely on one food with increasing quality at each stage of the game . This one food varies from patch to patch but usually players choose the easiest one to produce with the best result.

My suggestion is instead to go for food quality, to choose the food diversity path wich is supposedly better for health:

Dupe eat roughly for 2000cal/per cycle.

If this ration come from a single type of food, it provides basic needs

If this ration comes from a mix of 2 type of food, the dupe can have a bonus in strength for the next cycle

If this ration comes from a mix of 3 type of food, the dupe can have a bonus in strength and  main job attribute for the next cycle

If this ration comes from a mix of 4 type of food, the dupe can have a bonus in strength and  main job attribute and immunity for the next cycle

(this wouyld require dev to make dupe eat more than once a day or to try to take several portions of food before going to the mess instead of only one for now)

The idea in this suggestion is to allow new player to play easily with only one type of  food (the easiest one) but to make all type of food a goal for perfectionnist in the long run.

this combined with my suggestion of dupe own priority list

(which can give a perk only to the first job in the list) could make a dupe better in the other jobs too (depending on bonuses choosed by the dev) but only when the base provides food diversity.

A few things to note about the Occupation update:

  • Mealwood is no longer a magical free food.  It is now non renewable (well, not very renewable), as it takes dirt to fertilize
  • Strength got rolled in to Athletics
  • Jobs are a lot more complicated now
  • I think this meta managed to make people want to grow a whopping two types of food

I like this idea.  My thinking is that they don't need to increase the calories consumed to accomplish this.  They eat by going to the fridge and take a balanced meal from there.  This would better fridge control.  I think I would stipulate that all of the food has to be above a certain quality to allow for this.  For example, a dupe can not gain the 4 food bonus by eating meal lice, lice loaf, mush bar, and mush fry.  But if they eat berry sludge, pepper bread, grissle berry and maybe a frost bun or a grilled mushroom?

Maybe it could be like set bonuses.  If you eat pepper bread with other kinds of food above a certain quality, you get a small buff and those buffs stack.  And you get stronger benefits the more different types of food you eat.

This is a good suggestion   but might need some more refinement or consideration on the mechanics.   Some more brainstorming.

Because technically,  the food in the game  right now  is sort of a final diversity under the surface based on the requirements/elements that go into the final product of the one item.

The tasks to produce the higher quality  is basically just  an accumulation of the various individual tasks to create the lower level task.

For instance you can just each the mealice, or create the mush meallice.   So that's like a combination of things right?   So isn't that just the same as eating the meallice, and grabbing some other item in the fridge to eat separately.   So rather than eating 2or3 items,    having a food recipe that uses just those 2 to 3  produces the same effect as eating them together.

So maybe your idea is just a chef that can   "Craft"  multiple things and make "Meals" with different effects.

I definitely like the idea of having variety/diverse  foods that give different benefits.   But then it will result in some sort of   Miner's only food.   or    Farmers only food.   This is not necessarily a bad thing if people want efficiency (luxury) versus survival food
