Synthesize Water

Recommended Posts

From my experience, water seems to be the limiting growth factor in the game. Many of my colonies have flourished up to the 70th or 80th cycle, and then completely collapsed because there is no more water. So many things (lavatories, showers, research, etc.) require water. Although it can be created by filtering polluted water, I still find myself running out. There should be a way in the game to create water. Might I suggest a machine that combines hydrogen and oxygen to make water? In real life, this reaction is highly exothermic, so in the interest of keeping it real, the machine could output large amounts of heat. Anyone else run into this problem?

Did you find a steam geyser in your game?  There are 2 on the map that produce around 4 kg water per second at around 90 C each.  Polluted water is created in natural gas generators and petroleum generators as well, which can be cleaned and used.  A machine that combines O2 and H2 to make water could be nice.  However, it is kind of backwards from how most people play.  We split water to breathe in an electrolyzer and do other things with the hydrogen.  It could be interesting to be able to reverse that process.

I think the general meta of the game is to avoid water use as much as possible except for O2 generation due to its scarcity.  My dupes eat only raw meal lice.  I use lavatories and sinks because sinks are just more convenient than wash basins and lavatories actually produce more polluted water than they consume in water.

Use a lavatory instead of an outhouse for making air-water with, have non-germy water go through a separate machine for food water.  To be honest though I don't recommend using water for food until after well established, but thats just me :) I get a lot up and running before turning back around to luxuries
